Various of relief goods donated by Taiwan\u003cbr/\u003eCatholics gathered together in Manila on Sunday, for a mass in memory of the victims of last Friday's devastating landslide in Leyte province.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe tragedy left an entire farming village buried in thick mud and house-sized boulders, and rescuers fear virtually the entire population of about 1,800 has perished.\u003cbr/\u003eAt Manila's Remedios church, people could be seen praying for the victims.  \u003cbr/\u003eAfter the mass, Father Michael Martin, an Irish Catholic Priest who has lived in the Philippines for 40 years, reiterated the statement made by Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Rosales in light of the tragedy, that the landslide might have been prevented had the problem of forest denudation been addressed by the concerned sectors.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Many of what we call natural disasters can be avoided or mitigated anyway. They should not happen on this scale,\" he said.\u003cbr/\u003eToday, the former parish priest of Remedios church said that much of what we call natural disasters are actually man-made rather than natural.\u003cbr/\u003eDevotees like Vincent Luz on the other hand said the tragedy could be a warning from the Lord to return to prayers.\u003cbr/\u003eAside from prayers for the victims and their families, the church also set-up donation boxes to help with the rescue and reconstruction effort.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Greenpeace environment group also blames destructive logging for the tragedy and blamed the government for not having done anything to prevent it.\u003cbr/\u003eThe tragedy was brought about by the consequences of destructive logging and extreme weather events manifested by extreme rainfall. arrive.\u003cbr/\u003eThe 33-man Taiwan volunteer rescue team, along with their rescue equipment  arrived in Manila on Sunday morning, and is now headed to the area of the landslide.\u003cbr/\u003eHsin-hsing Wu, Representative of  the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Manila said that among the team's rescue gear are heat-sensors that can detect life beneath the
