Rebels in huddle UPSOUND (English) \"Rebellion on three, 1 - 2 - 3...\"\u003cbr/\u003e\"Rebellion!\" \u003cbr/\u003eIn the political arena, Israelis and Palestinians are attempting again to talk peace.\u003cbr/\u003eBut on a small sports field in Jerusalem, a group of Jewish settlers and five Palestinians are already showing that divided people can work together - at least on an American football team.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Judean Rebels are the first West Bank team in Israel's amateur American football league - most of the players are Jewish Israelis, many of them West Bank settlers - but five are Palestinian.\u003cbr/\u003eMost of the Rebels were raised in the United States and played football in school.\u003cbr/\u003eShlomo Schachter is the captain of the team. \u003cbr/\u003eHe said the players put aside their differences when they play.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I said 'hey guys, you want to play football?' and they said 'yeah, that's great. You should know that we're Arabs.' And I said 'I don't care who your great grandfather was. My great-grandfather is from the same part of the world.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe players insist they put aside their politics the minute they put on their orange jerseys and helmets, but off-the-field realities inevitably creep in.\u003cbr/\u003eMusa Elayyan, a 20-year-old Palestinian hotel worker in the West Bank city of Ramallah, said he often struggles to make it to practice because of delays at Israeli military checkpoints.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Checkpoints are crazy, soldiers are real tight, I mean, so it depends, if you're Israeli of course you have no problem (arriving from the West Bank). If you're Palestinian, there's a like a chance you probably won't get through.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSchachter said he was drawn to Elayyan and his brothers last year because of their size, and invited them to play football. \u003cbr/\u003eElayyan played for his high school team in Colorado Springs, Colorado.\u003cbr/\u003eSchachter said there are no problems with political differences.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We haven't had any issues of racial or political problems coming up while we're playing football and that's part of what it's about,\" he said.\u003cbr/\u003eElayyan hopes that by showing the two peoples can work together on the football pitch, others can see that it may be possible in other spheres of life.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We're working a lot towards a more, more towards changing people's thought at the same time, thought process, trying to keep them, open their minds a little,\" he said.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Rebels, who joined the seven-team local league last year, finished fourth in their first season after losing to the Tel Aviv Sabres in the semi finals. \u003cbr/\u003eThe new season starts in October.\u003cbr/\u003eMuch of the rift between the Israelis and Palestinians concerns Jewish settlements in the West Bank -  and that extends to the Rebels. \u003cbr/\u003eMany of the Jewish players on the team dream of building a 5,000-seat stadium in Efrat, a West Bank settlement outside Jerusalem.\u003cbr/\u003eBut for now, the plan remains on hold because the Israeli government has placed tight restrictions on new construction.\u003cbr/\u003eSchachter said he hoped that Palestinians would have access to the proposed sports facility, but said only the political climate of the time would decide that. \u003cbr/\u003ePalestinian residents of the West Bank have limited access to settlements.\u003cbr/\u003eThe team currently play at Jerusalem's Kraft Stadium, donated by New England Patriots owner Robert
