Former media tycoon Conrad Black (in tan suit) leaving the courtroom\u003cbr/\u003eA jury in Chicago that has been deliberating for nine days in the trial of former media tycoon Conrad Black sent a note to the judge on Tuesday saying they were unable to reach a verdict and asking for advice.\u003cbr/\u003eBlack and three others - ex-Hollinger executives Jack Boultbee and Peter Atkinson, and Chicago lawyer Kipnis - are accused of swindling shareholders in the newspaper empire of Hollinger International Inc. out of more than $60 (m) million US dollars (�30 (m) million British pounds). \u003cbr/\u003eBlack faces 13 charges, including mail fraud, wire fraud and racketeering.\u003cbr/\u003eAfter the note, US District Judge Amy St. Eve briefly called the jurors back into court and told them to make \"every reasonable effort\" to reach a unanimous decision. \u003cbr/\u003eThe jurors then returned to their deliberations.\u003cbr/\u003eThe jurors' note, read to the court by St. Eve, said: \"We have discussed and deliberated on all the evidence and are still unable to reach a unanimous verdict on one or more counts. Please advise.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe note was signed by the jury foreman and ended with: \"PS: We have read the jury instructions very carefully.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe jury is considering 42 counts against the four men and had thousands of pages of evidence to review.\u003cbr/\u003eBlack, 62, a member of the British House of Lords, faces a maximum penalty of 101 years in federal prison if convicted on all counts against him, although lawyers said a sentence anywhere near that stiff was unrealistic.\u003cbr/\u003eThe lead prosecutor Eric Sussman told St. Eve that the prosecution put the actual time of deliberations at only about seven full days and urged that the jurors to continue trying to reach a verdict. \u003cbr/\u003eHe also raised the possibility of giving the jurors the option of returning a 'partial verdict', meaning decisions on one or more of the charges but not all of them.\u003cbr/\u003eHollinger International once owned community papers across the United States and Canada as well as the Chicago Sun-Times, the Toronto-based National Post, the London  Daily Telegraph and Israel's Jerusalem Post. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Sun-Times is the only large paper remaining
