\u003cbr/\u003eThe Gardiner Museum has made a name for itself for its original collections from the Ancient Americas to the Italian Renaissance and East Asian objects. \u003cbr/\u003eNow there is an exhibit - 'Object Factory' - where ceramics are combined with modern industrial products.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Gardiner Museum houses one of the world's oldest and most universal art forms - ceramics - from 3,500 BC onward.\u003cbr/\u003eIt is North America's only specialist museum - devoted solely to collecting and exhibiting ceramics.\u003cbr/\u003eThere are more than 3000 pieces spanning periods and styles from Europe, East Asia and the Americas.\u003cbr/\u003eHere, there's a fascinating perspective on how ceramics developed from ancient times, and how they have  contributed to lives and cultures around the world.\u003cbr/\u003eSusan Jeffries, curator, says the collections span the world and history. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Ancient Americas exhibit demonstrates an expression in clay of the unique contributions and \u003cbr/\u003easpirations of the first peoples of the Americas.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Italian Renaissance exhibit shows how 'tin-glazed' pottery from Central Asia became known as maiolica. \u003cbr/\u003eThere is 17th and 18th century Delftware from England, 18th century porcelain front Europe, including Meissen from Germany and Sevres from France, Chinese and Japanese wares, as well as contemporary art with the centrepieces being a Picasso vase and Marc Chagall figure. \u003cbr/\u003eIn 1984, financier and respected businessman George Gardiner and his wife, Helen, began the museum with their collection of around two thousand pieces. \u003cbr/\u003eThese became the foundation of The Gardiner Museum in downtown Toronto, housed in a 29 thousand square foot state of the art complex.\u003cbr/\u003eCeramics expert and collector Gail Brooker says ceramics live on today.\u003cbr/\u003eThe latest exhibit ' Object Factory\", highlights the art of industrial ceramics. \u003cbr/\u003eIt shows how close cooperation between studio artists, designers and industrial manufactures in recent years has stimulated advances in the world of ceramics, creating innovative and original works with a modern twist.\u003cbr/\u003eMore than 50 artists and industrial manufacturers from 18 different countries and three continents are represented. \u003cbr/\u003eSusan Jeffries says industrial design is the new trend.\u003cbr/\u003eHugh Douglas-Murray, ceramic technologist at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario, one of Canada's largest arts schools in North America agrees this is a trend.\u003cbr/\u003eDesigner Dov Ganchrow created one of the new exhibits - dinner plates with electrical wiring in them to keep the food warm.\u003cbr/\u003eAn example of this meshing of two worlds can be seen in the 'Porca Miseria' hand-made chandelier, made of broken plates and cutlery. \u003cbr/\u003eAt first glance it looks like a regular chandelier made of porcelain, but on closer inspection it becomes clear it's made of crockery and kitchen hardware.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Object Factory exhibit continues until September 7,
