We descended down beneath 20-thousand feet on  the arrival. It was about dusk and, from our position, we were in the clear...there was no  weather in our immediate vicinity  when we noticed out of our right-hand side that a  large cloud lit up with an orange glow from within or behind the cloud -- we aren't sure.  At first, we thought it would be lightning, which is very common, but the glow stayed  and became brighter in intensity and lit up the area very bright. And the other pilot on  the radios queried the controller who had no response for us concerning it but began to  query for some other aircraft in the area and .. without any response.\" \u003cbr/\u003eTwo fireballs seemed to appear heading in our general direction --  not in our immediate  vicinity but in our general direction -- diverging away from each other. The glow intensity  of the cloud became dimmer and the two fireballs proceeded to descend down and hit  the ground and became fireballs on the ground,. \u003cbr/\u003eWe were number one into the airfield so we proceeded uneventfully into the airport and  landed. \u003cbr/\u003eSUPERCAPTION: Unidentified U-S Air Force pilot, eyewitness\u003cbr/\u003eDavid Stempler, President of AirTrav Advisors - aviation consultants - said that the  volume of traffic and the inadequacies of air traffic control in India may have contributed  to the crash. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Well, their operational system there is pretty archaic. While it's too early to know  whether air traffic control was really significantly involved in this but they do have  significant problems. One of the major crossing points between Europe and Asia is over  the top of Calcutta and there are significant delays that occur there.
