Various of Revolution monument at night \u003cbr/\u003eMexicans are preparing for the yearly feast of the Three Kings.\u003cbr/\u003eHeld on January 6, it's a time for young and old to celebrate the Christian story of the three wise men that visited Jesus shortly after his birth.\u003cbr/\u003eAll across Mexico young and old are preparing to celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany, on January 6.\u003cbr/\u003eTraditionally a Christian celebration, it commemorates the three wise men, or Three Kings - Melchior, Gaspar and Balthasar -  who visited the newborn Christ child in Bethlehem.  \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to Mexican tradition theThree Kings arrived on their respective horse, elephant and camel during the night of January 5. \u003cbr/\u003eAs the big day approaches Mexico City's main square springs into life.\u003cbr/\u003eActors playing the Three Kings meet on the Plaza de las Estrellas. Enrique Portilla is playing King Melchior.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says they are marking the journey made by the kings to see baby Jesus.\u003cbr/\u003eAccording to tradition the Three Kings brought Jesus gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.\u003cbr/\u003eIn the square children and adults alike wait patiently to have their pictures taken with the royally dressed characters.   \u003cbr/\u003eFor many this time of the year is also about indulgence and many Mexicans celebrate by eating rosca de reyes, or the kings' cakes. \u003cbr/\u003eAt the Pasteleria Suiza, or Swiss Bakery, customers can buy roscas of all sizes, from the minute to the truly gigantic.\u003cbr/\u003eAlina Bassegoda's family owns the Pasteleria Suiza.\u003cbr/\u003eShe says their cakes attract people from across Mexico City and beyond.\u003cbr/\u003eAs part of the celebrations, Mexican children write wish-laden letters to the Three Kings requesting gifts that, if they have been good, are then left for them early on January on 6.  \u003cbr/\u003eThis year many children have made the journey to an 'official' Three Kings post office in the centre of the capital.\u003cbr/\u003eOne parent who has taken her children to the post office is Dyanira Reyes.\u003cbr/\u003eShe says traditionally children receive gifts from the Three Kings.\u003cbr/\u003eElsewhere families are flocking to the Monument of the Revolution.\u003cbr/\u003eUnder a large Christmas tree families can pose for photos with the Three Kings, or buy festive souvenirs.\u003cbr/\u003eCipriano Flores is visiting with his young family.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says the Three Kings are more accessible for most Mexicans than Santa Claus.\u003cbr/\u003eLeonel Garcia, who is playing King Balthasar, says he likes seeing the young children happy.\u003cbr/\u003eSanta is also present, but by no means the centre of attention. \u003cbr/\u003eAs the evening approaches all kinds of food and amusements are on offer, for both the young
