Wide of news conference\u003cbr/\u003eThe chairman of  United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and 2007 Nobel Peace prize winner Rajendra Pachauri, said on Friday it was a privilege to share the award with co-recipient Al Gore, a former US Vice President.\u003cbr/\u003eThe IPCC and Gore received the prestigious accolade for their efforts to spread awareness of man-made climate change and lay the foundations for counteracting it.\u003cbr/\u003e\"He's a remarkable individual, he's really carried out a major campaign, he's treated as a mission the need to spread awareness about climate change and he has done it so effectively,\" Pachauri said of Gore at a news conference in Delhi. \u003cbr/\u003e\"I've seen his movie which I think is a remarkable production, but more than all that I've had the pleasure and privilege of knowing him almost two decades, and I have the highest regard for him. I would say it's a great privilege for the IPCC to share this award with Al Gore,\" he added, referring to Gore's Oscar winning film \"An Inconvenient Truth\".\u003cbr/\u003eThe Nobel committee cited the IPCC for its two decades of scientific reports that have \"created an ever broader informed consensus about the connection between human activities and global warming. Thousands of scientists and officials from over 100 countries have collaborated to achieve greater certainty as to the scale of the warming.\"\u003cbr/\u003eIt went on to say that because of the panel's efforts, global warming has been increasingly recognised. In the 1980s it \"seemed to be merely an interesting hypothesis, the 1990s produced firmer evidence in its support. In the last few years, the connections have become even clearer and the consequences still more apparent.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe Nobel committee chairman, Ole Danbolt Mjoes, said the prize should not be seen as singling out U.S. President George W. Bush or his administration for criticism. \u003cbr/\u003eBush has been widely targeted by critics who say he has not taken global warming seriously enough.\u003cbr/\u003eIn particular, Bush has been chided for his rejection of the 1997 Kyoto Protocol on cutting greenhouse gas emissions, which the president argues would harm the U.S. economy and is unfair because it did not require immediate cuts by countries like China and India.\u003cbr/\u003eAt the news conference Pachauri said that emerging markets needed to be aware of the issues surrounding greenhouse gas emissions.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We really need to involve the emerging markets at this point of time but yes, it's important for the emerging market economies to pursue their goals in terms of economic growth in a manner that does not lead to the same intensity of carbon dioxide or greenhouse gas emissions, as was the case with the developed countries at a similar stage of growth.\"\u003cbr/\u003eIn a statement, Gore said he was \"deeply honoured to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.\"\u003cbr/\u003e\"We face a true planetary emergency.
