Mid of beds\u003cbr/\u003eEvacuation centres have been prepared for residents of the Texan town of West, after an explosion at a fertiliser factory on Wednesday. \u003cbr/\u003eExtensive damage was caused to local buildings following the explosion at West Fertiliser in West, a community about 20 miles (32 kilometres) north of Waco. \u003cbr/\u003eRickey Edison, the superintendent of the Abott Independent School Disctrict, had overseen preparations for an evacuation centre in the neighbouring city of Abbott. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Right now, we have 100 cots here. We are prepared to take up to 100 people or more if we need to,\" he said. \u003cbr/\u003e\"We definitely have people that have family members there in West. We're side by side cities and so a lot of things that Abbott and West do together,\" he added. \u003cbr/\u003eThe blast happened shortly before 8 p.m. on Wednesday (0100GMT Thursday) and could be heard as far away as Waxahachie, 45 miles (72 kilometres) to the north. \u003cbr/\u003eIt sent flames shooting high into the night sky and rained burning embers, shrapnel and debris down on shocked and frightened residents.\u003cbr/\u003eThe explosion left the factory a smouldering ruin and levelled buildings for blocks in every direction.\u003cbr/\u003eRescue workers searched rubble that witnesses compared to a war zone early on Thursday. \u003cbr/\u003eIt's thought as many as 15 people died and 160 others were injured by the
