earthquake in June.\u003cbr/\u003eArequipa, some 750 kilometres south of the capital Lima, saw its share of visitors drop by 50 per cent since the quake, with many tourists under the impression that the tourist sites themselves had been damaged.\u003cbr/\u003eTo show foreign visitors that there is still much to see in the region, the government organised a press trip to some of the most famous tourist sites.\u003cbr/\u003eArequipa boasts a host of religious monuments including  the Santa Catalina monastery, cut into the side of a volcano, the cathedral of Arequipa, and the convents of San Fransisco and Santo Domingo, as well as hundreds of religious relics and items of religious art.\u003cbr/\u003eThe region offers scenery from snow capped volcanic mountains to huge rivers, including the River Colca which runs for more than 400 kilometres.\u003cbr/\u003eThe region also specialises in eco-tourism, the valley of Colca is an immense wildlife haven, with its own particular ecosystem,
