hand strong gains to an Islamic party.\u003cbr/\u003eTurnout in Friday's vote was estimated at 41 percent of the moderate North African kingdom's 15 (m) million voters, the lowest in its young democratic history.\u003cbr/\u003eThe first trickle of official results early on Saturday was inconclusive and Moroccan newspapers could only speculate who would get the majority vote.\u003cbr/\u003eOne newspaper, \"Aujourd'hui Le Maroc\", asked on its front page: \"Will the Islamists from the PJD (Islamic Justice and Development Party) grab the stake of the Moroccan democracy?\"\u003cbr/\u003eWhile another paper, \"Le Monde\", printed that the \"Islamists are the favourites.\" \u003cbr/\u003eWith 31 of parliament's 325 seats decided, the Islam-inspired Justice and Development Party, or PJD, had six seats, with seven going to conservative-leaning Istiqlal, a member of the ruling coalition, according to the Interior Ministry. \u003cbr/\u003eOther votes were split among several parties.\u003cbr/\u003eUnemployment, corruption and poverty were voters' top concerns, not religion. \u003cbr/\u003eYet the vote raised broader questions about the growing strength of political Islam in Morocco, a tourist-friendly US ally, and beyond.\u003cbr/\u003eThe PJD is expecting to win the largest number of seats, or at least substantially boost the 42 seats it had in the outgoing parliament. \u003cbr/\u003eStill, it will fall well short of a majority.\u003cbr/\u003eUltimate power rests with King Mohamed VI, who has until October 12 to name a prime minister based on the results of Friday's vote. \u003cbr/\u003eThe prime minister then names a government.\u003cbr/\u003eDespite faster counting methods than in the 2002 elections, including vote tallies sent by text message to election office cell phones, results dragged on more slowly than expected. \u003cbr/\u003eFuller results were expected to come in throughout
