\u003cbr/\u003eThey have produced a 120 metre (131 yards) batik cloth, chronicling what happened when the giant waves struck. \u003cbr/\u003eThe cloth, believed to be the longest batik in the world, was shown to the press on Friday in Bangkok.  \u003cbr/\u003eIt will be formally unveiled during the tsunami commemoration events on December 26 in Phang Nga.\u003cbr/\u003eThe scenes depicted include the waves engulfing hotels on the beach front and people fighting for their lives in the water. \u003cbr/\u003eOther scenes show the resort area of Khao Lak just before the disaster happened, with peaceful images of palm trees, boats and holidaymakers. \u003cbr/\u003eThe work has been produced by the Phang Nga Labour Club, a group of 25 former hotel staff, whose jobs disappeared, along with the establishments they were working in, on December 26th last year.\u003cbr/\u003eThey were re-trained in the art of batik, thanks to support from the UN's International Labour Organisation. \u003cbr/\u003eBatik-makers produce their distinctive designs by covering parts of the fabric with removable wax. \u003cbr/\u003eThis allows them to control which parts of the cloth gets dyed. \u003cbr/\u003eThe art is well-established in the south of Thailand. \u003cbr/\u003eThe group hope their work will not only remind the world of what happened in Phuket and Khao Lak, but also showcase their skills and kick-start their new business. \u003cbr/\u003eThey are also hoping for an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records.\u003cbr/\u003eThe tsunami killed nearly 5-thousand-400 people on Thailand's Andaman sea resort coast (which includes Khao Lak and Phuket), about half of them foreign tourists. \u003cbr/\u003e708 people are still listed as missing in Thailand.\u003cbr/\u003eOverall
