One of the few big names still showing in London, Julien MacDonald flew the flag for British fashion on Saturday  (September 14) with a star-studded Spring/Summer show.\u003cbr/\u003eNot only did he put supermodel Naomi Campbell on his  catwalk, he dressed her in a 60 carat diamond necklace, valued  at around 12 million U.S. dollars.\u003cbr/\u003eThe look of the show was high glamour -- glitzy for the  city and tropical for the beach. Gold studs and silver rivets  peppered skin-tight leather trousers, jackets and pencil  skirts. Long floaty dresses in floral-printed chiffon were  slashed to the thigh, and frilly camisole tops were teamed\u003cbr/\u003ewith pink silk soccer shorts.  But it is for his tiny dresses that Macdonald is known,  and his Spring/Summer collection didn't disappoint. Backless, strapless, shoulderless and split to the thigh, the little  sparkly dress dominated the show, often with Macdonald's  trademark asymmetric hemlines.\u003cbr/\u003eColours were anything but subtle -- black, hot pink,  scarlet and purple.  Thirty year-old Macdonald was born in Merthyr Tydfil,\u003cbr/\u003eWales. He studied textiles Brighton, England and then fashion  at the Royal College of Art in London. He worked at Chanel  before launching his own label in 1997.\u003cbr/\u003eAs well as designing under his own name, he is also the  artistic director for French Couture House Givenchy, designing  six collections a year.\u003cbr/\u003eHis customers include singer Kylie Minogue and actresses  Elizabeth Hurley and Joely Richardson.\u003cbr/\u003eTHE DESIGNER: The Welsh wonder keeps British Fashion's name in lights as the 端ber-maestro of glitz and glam, and as artistic director of Givenchy in Paris. Snapped up as a graduate by Karl Lagerfeld to do knitwear for Chanel, he designed the house's best-selling outfit. His own label quickly acquired a reputation for clothes that are sexy, slinky and sparkly, and a celebrity client list as long as Jodie Kidd's legs. He has also sassed up the uniforms at British Airways and Bluewater, launched a showy diamond range and has done tour clothes for Kylie and J-Lo.  \u003cbr/\u003e THE LOOK: High-octane showstoppers - and that's just his day-suits.
