Calimon showing pictures to the media\u003cbr/\u003eThe Philippine government has ordered the recall of (m) millions of cans of infant milk products made by US-based company Wyeth because they may have been contaminated at a warehouse during a storm, officials said on Wednesday.\u003cbr/\u003eJoshua Ramos, deputy director of the Bureau of Food and Drugs, said up to 4.3 (m) million units of the infant formulas Bona, Promil, Promil Kid and Progress Gold may have been contaminated last year in the warehouse. \u003cbr/\u003e\"The reason why the products were recalled (is) because these products are affected by Typhoon Milenyo and there are evidences that they are contaminated with rust and microbial moulds,\" Ramos said.\u003cbr/\u003eThe recall order came the same day that the Supreme Court heard arguments on whether to allow health officials to impose stringent measures against what they say are aggressive advertising by foreign milk companies.\u003cbr/\u003eThe officials said the advertising has led many women to believe infant formula is better than mother's milk.\u003cbr/\u003eWyeth had reported to the Bureau of Food and Drugs that only 2.5 (m) million units were affected.\u003cbr/\u003eThe milk in question was manufactured between May and July 2006.\u003cbr/\u003eRamos said Wyeth had selectively withdrawn contaminated milk units and destroyed them but has yet to reply to the department's questions on their count of affected units and whether they have ensured that milk remaining in the market is safe.\u003cbr/\u003eRamos said Wyeth only reported the contamination to the bureau after word of it spread on the Internet. \u003cbr/\u003eWyeth Philippines Medical Director Nerissa Calimon said there had been an issue with the packaging but \"at no time was the product quality affected.\"\u003cbr/\u003e\"The dates covered by the BFAD (Bureau Food and Drugs) product recall order are for those products manufactured from May 23, 2006 to ......
