I'll get this one anyway.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPERCAPTION: Last minute shopper\u003cbr/\u003eSupermarkets are bracing themselves for their busiest day, with many shoppers waiting  until the last minute to buy the centre-piece for the Thanksgiving dinner.\u003cbr/\u003eThe turkeys have to stand up to close scrutiny -- the right size and weight for the  number of dinner guests.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd for some people, one turkey is just not enough.\u003cbr/\u003e\"A lot of turkey. These turkeys that I am getting here are for the people that I work with,  and I give them a turkey every year - so that is the purpose of all these turkeys.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Jonathan Smith, Turkey buyer\u003cbr/\u003eOnce the all important Thanksgiving purchase has been made, its time to start cooking,  which for some can be a very hazardous experience.\u003cbr/\u003eOthers take it very seriously.\u003cbr/\u003eMore than 700 calls are received at the Meat and Poultry Hotline every day -- asking  everything from how to thaw to how to bake and what to do with the leftovers of the  holiday meal.  \u003cbr/\u003eMost of the calls at this time of year are about how to cook the perfect turkey. \u003cbr/\u003eOne problem this year has been the number of novice chefs attempting to bake the  perfect turkey for the first time.\u003cbr/\u003eBut it's not all bad news for Turkeys.\u003cbr/\u003eNot all of them have to end up on a silver platter like this one.\u003cbr/\u003eJust back from Asia, the President took some time out to mark the beginning of the  American Thanksgiving holiday season and to keep some White House traditions alive.\u003cbr/\u003eOne of them is \"The pardoning of the turkey\" where the President saves one bird from  becoming part of someone's Thanksgiving feast.\u003cbr/\u003eBill Clinton, sounding hoarse, held a photo opportunity where one turkey's life was  saved, the day before Thanksgiving.\u003cbr/\u003eThis is Carl, an all-white Tom turkey.\u003cbr/\u003e33-week-old Carl at 35-pounds (16 kilos approx)  would have been ideal for Thanksgiving  dinner.\u003cbr/\u003eBut luck was on Carl's side -- he received the \"President's pardon.\" \u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"Tomorrow 45 million turkeys will pay the supreme sacrifice for our Thanksgiving.
