Agreement (NAFTA), by burning US dollars in front of the US embassy in Mexico City.\u003cbr/\u003eThe vendors were angry at recent trade amendments that removed the last tariff protections from ancestral Mexican trade crops like corn and beans.\u003cbr/\u003eOne of the protestors at Wednesday's demonstration told AP Television that the demonstration was a burning issue for generations of Mexicans.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We will go where we need to go, because the street vendors are conscious, because in this case is not for a street, it's for the economy and the future of our children and families,\" vendor Maria Rosende said.\u003cbr/\u003eAs part of a national movement called, \"Without corn, the country doesn't exist!\", the demonstrators demanded the re-negotiation of NAFTA.\u003cbr/\u003eMexico abolished its last protective tariffs on basic crops like corn, beans and sugar on January 1, under the terms of NAFTA. \u003cbr/\u003eMexican farmers have complained they would not be able to compete with American farmers who can sell cheaper products because they receive government subsidies. \u003cbr/\u003eMovement leaders said that since the implementation of NAFTA, more than 2 million (m) rural people have been displaced from the countryside and forced to emigrate to cities or to the North, in search of a means for survival, in an endless supply of cheap labour
