Various shots of exterior of tree house\u003cbr/\u003eTree houses have traditionally been associated with children.\u003cbr/\u003eBut as people become more interested in sustainable construction, and seek to live closer to nature, demand is growing for sophisticated versions of traditional tree houses. \u003cbr/\u003eAvailable in every shape, form and style, they can serve as romantic getaways, home offices and increasingly as treetop hotels and lodges. \u003cbr/\u003eTread carefully along the swinging rope bridge and it's not difficult to imagine for a second that you're trekking across a dense African jungle.\u003cbr/\u003eBut this is the heart of Sussex in the south-east of the United Kingdom. \u003cbr/\u003eAcross the bridge emerges a rather larger and smarter-looking version of a traditional tree house.\u003cbr/\u003eInside it's not the stereotypical children's tree hideaway. \u003cbr/\u003eHere, an adult can spend some time improving oil painting skills or simply relaxing in a comfortable chair with a magazine. \u003cbr/\u003eElectrical sockets guarantee ample reading light, or the chance to put the kettle on.\u003cbr/\u003eA side door at the back gives instant access to nature.\u003cbr/\u003eThis is the show room of tree house building company Blue Forest. \u003cbr/\u003eThe company is one of several that are supplying the growing demand in the UK for upmarket tree houses that include children's fantasy playhouses, family entertainment areas, fully equipped home offices to treetop lodges.\u003cbr/\u003eTree houses are gaining popularity on the back of the interest in sustainable construction and building and the trend for people to get closer to nature.\u003cbr/\u003eApart from the UK and European market, Blue Forest is also working with eco-lodges in places like Panama and Burma.\u003cbr/\u003eSimon Payne is the business manager of the company.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says the growing popularity of eco-tourism means travellers prefer to stay in small complex of tree house lodges than in a large, conventional hotel.\u003cbr/\u003eIn the UK, for the time being, the bulk of orders are for tree houses that can serve both as a children's fantasy retreat and for adult leisure space.\u003cbr/\u003eOne wealthy client has ordered a structure that includes a main tree house separated from a play deck by a rope bridge.\u003cbr/\u003eTypically, a team of two builders work on a project like this for about three to four weeks. \u003cbr/\u003eThe smallest tree house costs 12,000 pounds ($24,000 US Dollars) with costs rising considerably according to client specifications and the type of wood chosen.\u003cbr/\u003eThe builders are currently ten days into a three week project. They are concentrating on fixing the main structures as well as sawing the treads for the drawbridge.\u003cbr/\u003eAlistair Irvine is one of the builders.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says that when a team arrives on the site, they start by following instructions laid out in a previously prepared site plan that takes into account surrounding trees and desirable outlooks such as a pond. \u003cbr/\u003eAlistair says an oak tree has been chosen as a play deck and a beech tree will be used as the main deck of the house. He adds that to erect a tree house you don't necessarily have to use a particularly large tree as the house can be supported off the ground.\u003cbr/\u003eApart from clients changing their minds, what can most delay a project is the weather. Rain in particular can affect the process of staining wood.\u003cbr/\u003eOne of the most striking examples of how a tree house can be used for commercial purposes can be found in the grounds of England's only medieval country castle hotel.\u003cbr/\u003eAmberley Castle has been named 'Hotel of the Year' by readers of \"Room for Romance\", the best-selling guide to romantic hotels.\u003cbr/\u003eTo maintain its romantic credentials, the hotel decided to create Mistletoe Lodge tree house aimed mainly at couples who are seeking a novel way of spending a few hours while enjoying an evening meal.\u003cbr/\u003eThe hotel offers couples the chance to sip some champagne in a secluded bench overlooking a pond before they put the final touches to a cold buffet meal inside the tree house.\u003cbr/\u003eAccess to the tree house is via an elegant spiral staircase leading to a second deck and feature rope bridge.\u003cbr/\u003eOliver Smith is the hotel's manager.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says the tree house has proven so popular with guests that lunches are now also served inside.\u003cbr/\u003eSmith recalls one occasion when a gentleman filled the entire
