Fresh food, simply prepared and beautifully presented.\u003cbr/\u003eThis is nature in the raw.  Slices of mango and pineapple, red onion, homemade pesto sauce, buckwheat and olive oil. \u003cbr/\u003eBut this dish never feels the heat.\u003cbr/\u003ePreparing a pizza in this Toronto restaurant is a passion of owner Tracy Mulvihill.  Keeping it raw and tasting great is the secret ingredient of their success she says.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The 'Wow!' factor of people not realising that it's actually raw and tastes amazing is the best thing for me. Because it's one thing to make a cooked meal and people are astounded by how good it tastes, but for something to be raw and they don't really believe how it could be raw, that's fun to me.\"\u003cbr/\u003eTropical pizza is just one of many favourites on the menu at the aptly named Rawlicious, a homely eaterie full of fresh flowers and stripped pine tables. What they don't have is a stove or an oven - everything is served raw.\u003cbr/\u003eThe owners are passionate about serving innovative and delicious raw vegan food.\u003cbr/\u003eEverything on the menu - from pizza and tacos, to pad thai and pasta - are all made on the premises.\u003cbr/\u003ePuddings are another speciality - cheesecake, apple pie, ice cream and mango-orange Creamsicles.\u003cbr/\u003eFans rave about their Choco Monkey chocolate shakes, a blend of nut milk, banana, raw chocolate, almond butter, dates and cinnamon. \u003cbr/\u003eOnce the pizza toppings are loaded, it gets its crunchy consistency in a dehydrator. \u003cbr/\u003eAt Rawlicious, the dehydrator is used to cook many other kinds of crunchy foods such as crackers, cookies and chips. \u003cbr/\u003eCooking without heat still requires a few basic tools says co-owner Angus Crawford.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The most important thing is to get some really good equipment. So I would say any kind of cancer, it really helps to prevent it.\"\u003cbr/\u003eMulvihill and her partner Angus Crawford both switched from mainstream North American diets - plenty of meat, potatoes and carbohydrates just a few years ago. Crawford had a loved one who was battling cancer, and after researching raw food on the internet, he decided it would be his own best defence against illness.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says eating raw food helps him feel great, mentally and physically, and believes it can help people who suffer from anxiety and depression as well as those who want to lose weight. \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to the Toronto Vegetarian Association, studies have shown that eating animal food products is linked to heart disease, high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes, and some forms of cancer.  \u003cbr/\u003eThere are as many as 80 vegetarian restaurants in Toronto, but only four or five specialise in serving raw food, according to the Toronto Vegetarian Association. \u003cbr/\u003eEating raw food is also good for the planet, the association says. Livestock production is responsible for 18 percent of global climate change, according to the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organisation. Commercial animal food production also contributes to land degradation, air and water pollution and a loss of biodiversity.\u003cbr/\u003eKrysztof Szychowski, a composer and sound designer, adopted a raw food diet two years ago after a debilitating gastro-intestinal condition. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Chronic disease, that is no longer in the way,\" says Szychowski. \"So the chronic disease would sometimes keep me in bed for 16 hours a day. I don't sleep 16 hours a day anymore, and it's pretty fast, easy, and the body feels well, so then the mind can be well.\"\u003cbr/\u003eYoga instructor Peter Ward started introducing raw food into his diet just two months ago. He regularly eats at Rawlicious in order to get inspired to try making similar dishes at home. \u003cbr/\u003e\"It doesn't look like raw food,\" says Ward. \"The pizza looks like a pizza, the pasta looks like pasta. But it's all fresh, raw food, and it's exceptionally good. It's really tasty.\"\u003cbr/\u003eFollowing the success of Rawlicious, Mulvihill and Crawford opened at a second location, last November, in downtown Toronto.\u003cbr/\u003eRaw, it seems, is good for
