The yield on Italian bonds dropped significantly, especially on the short term maturities. It's not clear whether the European Central Bank, anyway, will step in and buy these bonds, even though these countries have not asked for help, so this will be outside the OMT programme. Close up hands  \u003cbr/\u003eItaly continued to benefit on Thursday from the good news coming out of Europe when it easily raised 6.5 billion euros (8.38 billion US dollars) in three bond auctions.\u003cbr/\u003eThe country's borrowing costs have been falling since the European Central Bank unveiled its plan last week to buy unlimited amounts of short-term debt.\u003cbr/\u003eThe proposal would lower borrowing costs in heavily indebted Italy and Spain. \u003cbr/\u003eCountries must first ask for aid from the eurozone's bailout fund. \u003cbr/\u003eItalian Premier Mario Monti has said he doesn't think Italy needs the assistance.\u003cbr/\u003eThe interest rate, or yield, on Italy's 10-year bonds in the secondary market were 4.98 percent on Thursday, compared to 6.36 percent in July, at the height of concerns about whether the country might be forced into asking for a bailout.\u003cbr/\u003eItaly's central bank said demand for Thursday's auction was strong at 1.49 times with yields on the three-year notes down to 2.75 percent from the 4.65 percent registered at a similar bond auction in July. \u003cbr/\u003eItaly also easily sold two tranches of 15-year bonds.
