So we do things like that, and I don't have resolutions usually because what I have is getting over what I did for the whole last year is what I do. We're like family. We grew up together and we have basically the same values systems and while we're quite different in terms of our personalities and our interests. You know, Amy lives in the woods and I'm more of an urban person and just things that are, I mean you can see on the surface, but we're deeply rooted in some of those things and there are plenty of differences, but there are a lot of reasons that we stay together. One is that we have creative autonomy in the song writing process, so Amy writes her own. I write my own. It's a very -- I mean I enjoy co-writing but at my basic essence of an artist, I like to create on my own and Amy does, too. And for whatever reason, we were given the gift of arranging each other's songs together.\"\u003cbr/\u003e12. \"The Wonder Song\" in studio performance\u003cbr/\u003eAfter working together for 25 years and recording a dozen albums, Emily Saliers and Amy Ray have finally released a holiday album, \"Holly Happy Days.\" \u003cbr/\u003e\"We just kind of looked at each other and went, 'maybe it's time to do a holiday record,' says Ray. \u003cbr/\u003e\"And our manager sent us -- or gave us -- Christmas presents last year that was a box of mixed CDs that he made of all holiday songs, from like every walk of life and everything, and said, 'okay, get to work.'\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe two, who have been friends since elementary school, chose Christmas classics including \"O Holy Night,\" \"I'll Be Home for Christmas\" and \"Angels We Have Heard on High\" as well as some lesser known holiday tunes including, \"In the Bleak Midwinter,\" the favorite hymn of both women's mothers, and Woody Guthrie's \"Happy Joyous Hanukkah\" featuring vocals by Janis Ian and Mary Gautier. In addition they wrote three new original songs for the album.   \u003cbr/\u003e\"You definitely look at a record that's a lot of cover songs differently than when you're doing your own. You're not as intensely married to how it comes out, so you're probably more open in some ways, which is good,\" explains Ray. \u003cbr/\u003eThe duo recorded the CD with a stellar cast of musicians who round out the CD's rootsy, blue-grass sound. \u003cbr/\u003eThose musicians - including Alison Brown on banjo, Victor Krauss on bass, Luke Bulla on fiddle, mandolin and guitar, Jim Brock on percussion, and Lloyd Maines on dobro and pedal steel - were so tight that Ray and Saliers were able to loosen their artistic reins a bit.\u003cbr/\u003e\"You know, a good exercise for us to kind of let things be and let people express themselves and not put too hard of a stamp on it,\" adds Ray, who said working with that group of musicians was inspiring. \u003cbr/\u003eAs for the new songs, Saliers says it was more challenging than expected. \u003cbr/\u003e\"My original song, (\"Your Holiday Song\") I wrote it when I was in Mexico on holiday.
