Wide of people watching 3D television display\u003cbr/\u003eJapan's CEATEC exhibition is where the country's IT and electronics industry demonstrate their latest technologies.\u003cbr/\u003eBut this year - in the wake of energy shortages caused by Japan's earthquake, tsunami and nuclear accident (on March 11, 2011) CEATEC is focussing on sustainable power solutions for a nation still coming to terms with the disaster.\u003cbr/\u003eAside from serious technology, there's plenty of quirky innovation on show here, such as this Intel inspired head sensor that allows the model to project emotions to a cartoon character on screen using hand gestures.\u003cbr/\u003eThe model is transformed into a koala bear... and with a flick of a switch she's a giant panda.\u003cbr/\u003eSimilarly a joint production between Japanese electronics maker TOPPAN and Intel has created a 'virtual fitting room' where a shopper can project images of clothes chosen from a digital menu onto a mirror image of themselves.\u003cbr/\u003eTOPPAN believes this may be the future of fitting rooms in stores or for home shopping - no more messing around in the cubicle of a tiny changing room - with the click of a button the garment changes colour, shape and size.\u003cbr/\u003eHowever the largest exhibits at CEATEC JAPAN are from companies hoping to demonstrate the application of new technologies to help overcome Japan's energy shortage following the devastating earthquake earlier in the year.\u003cbr/\u003eTelecommunications giant NTT DOCOMO has also joined the mission, creating a way for householders to manage and monitor their appliances usage of energy using a tablet device application.\u003cbr/\u003eKasufumi Tanaka from NTT DOCOMO says: \"When it becomes night time we can no longer use Solar Energy to charge the house so regretfully we have to use the house battery, drawing a maximum of 0.7kW. With this overall system this house doesn't need to withdraw any electricity from the national grid, so the house is completely self sufficient in its generation of electricity.\" \u003cbr/\u003eCar maker Nissan has teamed up with eight other manufacturers in the Yokohama Smart Community project to try to design energy self-sufficient housing.\u003cbr/\u003eUsing technology based on their Electric Vehicle, the Leaf, Nissan has created the \"Nissan House\" that draws electricity from solar panels which is then distributed back and forth between the home and car - depending on your energy requirements.\u003cbr/\u003eDuring the day solar panels charge the house's large battery and also the car, if it is parked at the house.\u003cbr/\u003eAt night when there is no sun, the house is powered by the energy stored during the day. The car can also chip in with a bit of extra energy from its battery if required.\u003cbr/\u003eYuukishi Sakai from Nissan's Planning and Advanced Engineering Development Division explains: \"Apart from the Nissan house, there are other types of energy self sufficient houses. What we aim to do is collect a group of energy self-sufficient houses into a 'smart community' where they can supply each other. companies will bring their energy efficient buildings together to create a self-sufficient city where houses share energy between themselves.\u003cbr/\u003eAs well as the green technology there's also the latest batch of 3D televisions on show.\u003cbr/\u003eBut at CEATEC the emphasis appears to be switching to ultra high-definition television, in the belief quality 2D vision still has a wider mass market appeal than 3D programming.\u003cbr/\u003eToshiba was showing off its Regza model - a 55 inch TV in ultra high-definition (known as 4K). \u003cbr/\u003eAlthough it's not the first time 4K TVs have been seen at technology trade shows, Toshiba is hoping its model will be first to the consumer market.\u003cbr/\u003eBut with an estimated price tag of around USD $12,000, it will be beyond most telly-addicts' wallets.\u003cbr/\u003eElectronics maker Sharp also brought along its 85 inch monster 8K4K TV. \u003cbr/\u003eQueues of people snake out of the room for a chance to view the 8K4K's resolution of 7680 x 4320 (consumer high-definition TVs have a resolution of 1920 x 1080).  \u003cbr/\u003eOrganisers expect over 200,000 people to visit the event which runs from October 4 - 8 near
