Wide of people swimming along the shore of Manila Bay\u003cbr/\u003eThousands of volunteers gathered on the shorelines of Manila Bay in the Philippines on Saturday to remove rubbish and debris from the water as they participated in the International Coastal Cleanup Day.\u003cbr/\u003eVarious government agencies, students and people from all walks of life concerned with the status of Manila Bay, a natural harbour famous for it scenic sunset, waded in waters littered with rubbish.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Philippine Supreme Court last year ordered all concerned government agencies to coordinate in the clean-up, restoration, and preservation of Manila Bay.\u003cbr/\u003eIt ordered several government agencies to immediately restore the waters of the bay to a quality that is fit for swimming and other aquatic recreations. \u003cbr/\u003eJuan Dela Cruz, a Manila City government official said that studies have revealed that the Bay has a high content of the bacteria coliform with estimates putting it as high as 115-thousand per millilitre.\u003cbr/\u003e\"They say the coliform content should only be around five thousand so that is a huge difference. In order to clean Manila Bay, all towns using Manila Bay should help so that we can restore the SB quality that is fit for swimming, fit for bathing, fit for boating,\" he added.\u003cbr/\u003eColiform commonly inhabits the intestines of humans and can cause people to become ill.\u003cbr/\u003eThe high court was concerned with the continuing degradation of the bay, \"a place with a proud historic past, once brimming with marine life and, for so many decades in the past, a spot for different contact recreation activities, but now  dirty and slowly dying,\" it
