Various illustrations of  water inventions\u003cbr/\u003eIsrael's scarce water supply has led to some innovative ways of dealing with the problem. \u003cbr/\u003eAt an international exhibition and conference in Tel Aviv professionals have been trading expertise in water desalination, water treatment and reclamation, water safety, and agricultural water consumption via drip irrigation. \u003cbr/\u003eWATEC 2011 is the place for showcasing key water developments both at home and abroad.\u003cbr/\u003eAs the row of flags lining the entrance to the conference illustrate, this is an international event drawing participants from  the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia.\u003cbr/\u003eTwenty thousand people are expected to attend this event which runs 15 - 17 November, with some 150 international delegations. \u003cbr/\u003eIsrael's specific needs have brought about a number of prominent developments including the world's largest reverse osmosis desalination plants, located at Ashkelon and Hadera. The Ashkelon plant produces around 13% of the country's domestic consumer demand - equivalent to 5-6% of Israel's total water needs.\u003cbr/\u003eGeorge S. So rather than using energy to treat waste water, the company claims to  harvest renewable energy directly from the wastewater before feeding it back to the electricity grid.\u003cbr/\u003eRonen Shechter is Emefcy's Chief Technology Officer: \u003cbr/\u003e\" Emefcy develops waste treatment processes that produce electricity from waste water , there is no such thing in the market we are the first ones to release such a product although people have been working on it in laboratories for almost a  century now\"\u003cbr/\u003eIn 2008 the Israeli  government  launched  the \"National Program for Alternative Energy Technologies\" - the NEWTech renewable energy sector. \u003cbr/\u003eIsrael's alternative energy companies are considered industry pioneers in solar and geothermal technologies. \u003cbr/\u003eIn recent years the shores of the Sea of Galilee have been retreating because Israelis have been drawing hundreds of millions of cubic metres of water beyond the amount replenished by rain.\u003cbr/\u003eThe increased demand for water, with grows by 40 to 50 (m) million cubic metres annually, is linked to the increase in the country's population. \u003cbr/\u003eSo it's little wonder that WATEC draws some of the best in the industry.\u003cbr/\u003eOne such expert is Elad Frenkel.
