billion package of tax reductions and new spending was \"good for American workers, good for American families.\"\u003cbr/\u003eIn a rare trip to Capitol Hill, the US president heartily endorsed the economic package, though the 330 (b) billion dollars of tax cuts, over a ten year period, were less than half of what he had requested. \u003cbr/\u003eBush said he would sign the bill when the House and Senate finish work on it.\u003cbr/\u003eThe bill contained many of the elements of Bush's original plan, which called for 726 (b) billion dollars  in tax reductions through to 2013. \u003cbr/\u003eBut the scaled-back congressional version would cut taxes by 330 (b) billion dollars for stockholders, individual taxpayers, couples and businesses, and provide another 20 (b) billion dollars for financially strapped states, a provision Bush did not seek.\u003cbr/\u003eDemocrats have continually criticised the plan as a giveaway to the well-off that would worsen annual federal deficits already expected to exceed 300 (b) billion dollars for the first time. \u003cbr/\u003eSenator Max Baucus described the bill as creating a \"whole basket of yo-yos\" - as many of the cuts are scheduled to expire after a few years.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Republican Party may need Vice President Dick Cheney's tie-breaking vote if other wavering moderates oppose the bill. \u003cbr/\u003eBut
