If true, it would be very unfortunate and clearly it would be obtained through illegal methods. But for us, nothing would reflect the position of the Court until we hear from the Court itself.\"\u003cbr/\u003eQ: What have your own sources said about whether (the Palestinians) have won this case of not?\u003cbr/\u003eA: Well we don't have our own cases (sources). We heard all kinds of rumours but again, this advisory opinion is supposed to remain confidential and we are dealing with it accordingly.\u003cbr/\u003eQ: If you do win, what message will this send out to the government of Israel?\u003cbr/\u003eA: If the advisory opinion would come as expected reflective of international law, would come that clear and that positive and comprehensive I think it would be a very powerful message to our people, to the Israeli people, to the region that international law counts, that people have to play by the law and I think that if we go down this path, this would allow us then to start anew and hopefully to achieve peaceful settlement and to achieve co-existence.\"\u003cbr/\u003e7. Al Kidwa talking to group\u003cbr/\u003eAn Israeli newspaper reported on Friday that the International Court of Justice has found the Israeli barrier in the West Bank to be illegal, and demanded Israel dismantle the structure and compensate Palestinians for confiscated land.\u003cbr/\u003eThe court, the highest judicial arm of the United Nations, was due to deliver its ruling on the barrier later Friday, in what is expected to be a long and complex legal opinion.\u003cbr/\u003eAccording to the Tel Aviv newspaper Haaretz, quoting court documents it said it obtained, the judges found by a 14-1 vote that the barrier, along its planned route, \"gravely infringes\" on the rights of Palestinians and cannot be justified by military needs or national security.\u003cbr/\u003eCommenting on the alleged leak on Friday from the Hague, Palestinian UN observer Nasser Al-Kidwa said it was unfortunate that Israeli sources had obtained a copy of the ruling before the official announcement from the Court. \u003cbr/\u003eBut if it were true, he said the ruling would send a clear message to the Israeli government and the international community that that the rule of law had to be adhered to.\u003cbr/\u003eAt the Palestinians' request, the UN General Assembly asked the world court last December for its opinion on the legality of the barrier - a 685-kilometre (425-mile) long complex of high concrete walls, razor-wire fences, trenches and watch towers. \u003cbr/\u003eAbout a quarter has been completed, much of it close to the pre-1967 border, but some dipping into the West Bank.\u003cbr/\u003eHaaretz said the court rejected Israel's argument that it had no jurisdiction in the case.\u003cbr/\u003eIt also reported that the Court brushed aside arguments from the United States and several European countries that its intervention could disrupt the US-initiated Mideast peace process known as the \"road map.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe lone dissenter, according to the paper, was the US judge Thomas Buerghenthal.\u003cbr/\u003eAl-Kidwa said he expected a ruling in favour of the Palestinians and was hopeful that the decision would renew the peace process and enable co-existence between with the Israelis. \u003cbr/\u003eIsrael said it would not comment until after the decision was delivered. \u003cbr/\u003eThe 15-member court's advisory opinions are nonbinding but bear moral and historic weight. They can serve as the basis for later action by the UN General Assembly or Security Council.\u003cbr/\u003eIsrael says the barrier is needed to stop Palestinian suicide bombers, who have killed hundreds of Israelis in the last four years. \u003cbr/\u003eIt points to the sharp drop in successful infiltration attempts from the West Bank since the barrier has been partly built, and to the fact that there have been almost none from Gaza, which has been surrounded by a fence for years.\u003cbr/\u003ePalestinians say the barrier imposes intolerable hardships on innocent people, separating them from schools, agricultural fields or workplaces.\u003cbr/\u003eThey won some support from the Israeli Supreme Court last week, when it ordered the government to reroute a 40-kilometre (25-mile)
