The coup has driven his political rival, Prince Norodom Ranariddh, to France -...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eNatural Sound \u003cbr/\u003eCambodia's Second Prime Minister, Hun Sen, appears to be in complete control of the country's capital, following heavy fighting at the weekend. \u003cbr/\u003eThe coup has driven his political rival, Prince Norodom Ranariddh, to France - but Royalist forces are reported to control large areas in the west of Cambodia.\u003cbr/\u003ePhnom Penh airport is still closed after being damaged by fighting.\u003cbr/\u003eSoldiers and civilians looted the building, taking technical equipment.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe Tuol Kork district of Phnom Penh showed the scars of war on Monday.  Abandoned tanks lining the roads and the bodies of dead FUNCINPEC soldiers lying unburied. \u003cbr/\u003eThis bullet-riddled car is said to belong to General Nhek Bunchhay, the Army Chief of Staff who had been at the Tang Kasang military base before it fell to C-P-P (Cambodian Peoples Party) troops.  It's not known where he is now.\u003cbr/\u003eThere were no signs of  Prince Norodom Ranariddh's forces as Hun Sen's soldiers searched through the abandoned headquarters of Ranariddh's Funcinpec party.\u003cbr/\u003eHun Sen appeared on state television to make a brief statement.\u003cbr/\u003eAs dawn broke on Monday, people were out on the streets again, trying as best they could to carry on with their lives amidst the violence.\u003cbr/\u003eFUNCINPEC soldiers had used this monastery, only half a kilometre from the Tang Kasang military base, as a stronghold.\u003cbr/\u003eIt received four or five rocket hits on Monday, killing eight people - seven soldiers and a trainee monk.\u003cbr/\u003eC-P-P forces finally wrested control of the Tang Kasang base on Sunday after a two-day offensive.\u003cbr/\u003eThese men sitting inside the base are prisoners - Funcinpec soldiers who surrendered to C-P-P forces.\u003cbr/\u003eHun Sen's troops drive through the capital's streets in tanks, cheering their victory.\u003cbr/\u003ePhnom Penh airport is still closed, having been caught in the cross-fire between troops loyal to Ranariddh and Hun Sen.\u003cbr/\u003eThis vehicle had been carrying water - now it is a testament to the violence that has incapacitated the airport.\u003cbr/\u003eRubbish and debris fill the check-in hall and departure lounge, which was damaged by shell fire.\u003cbr/\u003eHun Sen's Cambodian People's Party has moved in its troops to guard what's left of the airport.\u003cbr/\u003eBut through this fence one can see looters carrying off various items and ignoring the soldier firing bullets into the air to stop them.\u003cbr/\u003eCivilians in the city took advantage of the lull in the violence on Monday for further looting - they carried their stolen goods through the streets. \u003cbr/\u003eEven though C-P-P troops had themselves been involved in looting, Hun Sen's administration has ordered this to stop.\u003cbr/\u003eThey've deployed police and C-P-P forces on the road to the airport to stop further ransacking of the place.\u003cbr/\u003eLooters took equipment needed to direct takeoffs and landings in the control tower and radio communications equipment.\u003cbr/\u003eOne official from the civil aviation department said it could take a month before regularly scheduled international flights could resume - another said it could be Wednesday.\u003cbr/\u003eRanariddh says he'll organise resistance from abroad and with the threat of civil war now looming, the crisis poses a severe problem for the ASEAN regional grouping. \u003cbr/\u003eMember states were due to admit Cambodia to their ranks in 16 days time. \u003cbr/\u003eLooting continued in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh on Monday following three days of violence between rival troops.\u003cbr/\u003ePhnom Penh, Cambodia, July 7, 1997\u003cbr/\u003eTuol Kork (district of Phnom Penh)\u003cbr/\u003e1.
