artistic displays of large skeletons in Mexico to Voodoo processions in Haiti.\u003cbr/\u003eIn Mexico City, officials hosted a large outdoor festival, where local artisans built altars in honour of the deceased. \u003cbr/\u003eLarge colourful paper mache skeletons dotted the city's Zocalo square, which holds the country's main cathedral and government buildings. \u003cbr/\u003eHundreds of people visited the outdoor altars decorated with a large range of flowers and fruits. \u003cbr/\u003eArtist Exy Gitardo said her altar was inspired by 1940's actor Titan. \u003cbr/\u003e\"We chose Titan because he is young artistic figure that represents Mexico at any given historical period,\" Gitardo said. \u003cbr/\u003eOther altars included skeletal figurines dressed as Mexican symbols or characters from every day life, including a wedding with a banner reading \"Till death do us part.\"\u003cbr/\u003eAt the New Hope cemetery in Peru, thousands of people honoured the dead as part of the day of saints rituals.  \u003cbr/\u003eFamily members of more than 50-thousand deceased Peruvians travelled to the humble burial ground to remember the dead by celebrating their life. \u003cbr/\u003eSome relatives brought flowers and food, while others performed traditional dances and played instruments. \u003cbr/\u003eMaria Garcia poured a glass of her brother's favourite beer over his grave as she toasted the memory of his spirit. \u003cbr/\u003e\"The day of the dead honours all the saints and we always celebrate by bringing them their favourite foods to the cemetery, anything the deceased like we bring to them,\" Garcia said. \u003cbr/\u003eIn Port-au-Prince, thousands of Voodoo followers flocked to Haiti's largest cemetery to rouse sacred spirits and remember lost relatives in raucous Day of the Dead celebrations.\u003cbr/\u003eBearing rum, flowers and candles followers passed beneath a rumbling archway adorned with a black skull-and-crossbone flag that read \"Everyone is welcome.\" \u003cbr/\u003eAs dark rum flowed freely, they placed flowers and candles at the graves of relatives while revellers danced and sang to thumping music designed to awaken Baron Samedi, the god of the dead, and his mischievous offspring, Gede.\u003cbr/\u003eAs part of the annual two-day ritual, followers stumbled around in a trancelike state and rubbed hot pepper on their bodies. \u003cbr/\u003eOthers hit themselves and dripped melted candle wax on their faces and sang racy songs - an offering to Gede's lascivious side. \u003cbr/\u003eTwo-thirds of Haiti's 8 (m) million people are said to practice Voodoo, a blend of Christian tenets and African religions brought over by slaves. \u003cbr/\u003eIn 2003, Haiti's government officially sanctioned the faith as a religion, allowing priests to legally perform baptisms and marriages.\u003cbr/\u003eThe day of the dead officially begins on the eve of October 31st and ends on November
