He was very careful to say that he had not patterned himself after any other serial killers, that his ideas were his own. He was very clear about that disctiction, and that mattered a lot to him. As far as him researching other serial killers, he did have a lot of interest in books about other serial killers, and kind of suspense crime movies and books and things of that sort. But again, he was very realistic and said, 'You know, it interested me because I couldn't talk about it but that's what I was. I recognized that likeness, I recognized that sameness.\"\u003cbr/\u003e2. SOUNDBITE: Monique Doll/Anchorage Police Detective:\u003cbr/\u003e\"He never identified himself as a serial killer and in fact, that was one of the things he wanted very much as this investigaiton progressed, to keep from behing identified as.\" (reporter off cam: But you'd safely call him one?) \"Yes.\"\u003cbr/\u003e3. SOUNDBITE: Monique Doll/Anchorage Police Detective: \u003cbr/\u003e\"He told us he was losing control. He was losing the massive amount of self-control that he had. He told us in the past, that if the enviromental factors didn't line up .... there were several occasions he desribed to us in great detail where he planned on taking someone, he had his eyes on someone, and then the environmental factors didn't line up. In one case, a woman had a large dog. In another case a park ranger happened to show up on scnee on a completely unrelated matter. So, in prior cases, he had enough self control to walk away from it, to not commit the kidnapping, and not commit the abduction. And with Samantha (Koenig), he didn't.\"\u003cbr/\u003e4. SOUNDBITE: Monique Doll/Anchorage Police Detective: \u003cbr/\u003e\"So, he was a little chagrined, as a matter of fact, when he told us about Samantha (Koenig), and when he told us that he showed up, walked up to the coffee kiosk, recognized that there was no vehicle (her vehicle) there. And he broke his own rule. He had drawn his own line in the sand and he couldn't help himself. He said he took her anyway.\"\u003cbr/\u003e5. SOUNDBITE: Monique Doll/Anchorage Police Detective: \u003cbr/\u003e\"Israel Keyes didn't kidnap and kill people because he was crazy. He didn't kidnap and kill people because his diety told him to or because he had a bad childhood. Israel Keyes did this because he got an immense amount of enjoyment out of it, much like an addict gets an immense amount of enjoyment out of drugs. In a way, he was an addict, and he was addicted to the feeling that he got when he was doing this.\"\u003cbr/\u003e6. SOUNDBITE: Monique Doll/Anchorage Police Detective:\u003cbr/\u003e\"We would have loved to have known what else he did, and what other victims he had. He never took false credit for anything that I'm aware of.\"\u003cbr/\u003eInvestigators say an Alaska man who confessed to killing eight people across the country had researched Ted Bundy and other serial killers and enjoyed watching suspense crime movies. \u003cbr/\u003eBut Israel Keyes told Anchorage authorities his ideas were his own. And most of all, he never identified himself as a serial killer. \u003cbr/\u003eAuthorities released more information about the 34-year-old Keyes today.
