I knew that to make a whole film in that silence, in that haunted space, asking what does it really mean for survivors to have to build a life and survive amidst that rubble, shadowed by fear, shadowed by the men who killed their loved ones and those men still in power, still threatening them? To do that.. it's just as much about the present as 'The Act of Killing,' and in a sense the more urgent question is how do we survive and move on in such a horrible condition of impunity.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe protagonist in the new film is Adi, whose brother Ramli was brutally killed by the death squads.\u003cbr/\u003eThroughout the film, Adi goes to confront various men, now frail and mostly toothless, who were involved in his brother's killing.\u003cbr/\u003eThe men are still powerful in their local community, which meant very real threats were made to Oppenheimer and Adi during the shooting of the film.\u003cbr/\u003e\"This was a frightening film to shoot, much more so than 'The Act of Killing,\" says Oppenheimer.\u003cbr/\u003e\"While shooting we had a second getaway car so if we were followed as we left we could we could discreetly change cars. We would have mobile phones with no data in them so we could simply call for help but they wouldn't be able to track any contacts. We'd have no Indonesian crew, Adi would shoot with no ID, in case we were detained. It was a frightening film to shoot and Adi's family, as a result of the film, has relocated, they've had to move a couple of thousand kilometers away, inside Indonesia.  We've tried to make the best of this situation by getting them out of the isolation of north Sumatra and getting them away from the men who did this to their family.\"\u003cbr/\u003eDespite the threats and upheaval, Adi has no regrets about making the film.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Honestly, this is something I wanted. I really wanted these meetings to happen. I'm thankful that, at the very least, this can ease the burden that we have been experiencing.
