try to publicise their causes while media attention on the Vatican is high. \u003cbr/\u003eWhilst their impact may not sway the vote, some movements are starting to have an impact, primarily because they count hundreds of active priests as their members, a threat that the Vatican cannot easily ignore. \u003cbr/\u003eAmong the most well-known \"dissident\" or reform groups, there are those calling for the ordination of women.\u003cbr/\u003eOn Friday, International Women's Day, cardinals who are working through the problems of the church before entering the conclave discussed the role of women in the church - a first for the deliberations.\u003cbr/\u003eOutside the Vatican, meanwhile, Janice Sevre-Duszynska, an American woman priest ordained by the Association of Roman Catholic Womenpriests (RCWP), staged a one-woman protest, posing with a banner reading \"Women priests are here\".\u003cbr/\u003eSevre-Duszynska said that women are marginalised in the Catholic Church and need to be more involved in decision-making so that the church can attract more members.\u003cbr/\u003eShe was stopped and questioned by Italian police and driven away in an unmarked police car. \u003cbr/\u003eRoman Catholic Womenpriests was founded in Germany in 2002 after seven women said they were ordained as priests on the Danube River in violation of church law.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Vatican excommunicated them a few weeks later. \u003cbr/\u003eSince then, hundreds of women say they have been validly ordained as deacons, priests and a handful of bishops. \u003cbr/\u003eThe organisation claims on its website that the mainstream Catholic Church is \"unjust\" and \"discriminates against women\".\u003cbr/\u003eThe Vatican has made the illicit ordination of women one of the \"gravest\" canonical crimes, dealt with exclusively by Benedict XVI's old office, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. \u003cbr/\u003eThe sanction is swift and severe: automatic excommunication for the woman receiving the attempted ordination and the priest who performs the ceremony. \u003cbr/\u003eChurch teaching holds that because Jesus chose men to be his apostles, only males can serve in the priesthood. \u003cbr/\u003eSupporters of the female priest movement argue that Jesus called \"women and men to be disciples and equals living the Gospel.\"\u003cbr/\u003eMarilyn Hatton is a representative of Women Ordination Worldwide, a movement promoting the cause of women's ordination. \u003cbr/\u003eShe said she thought that the women's ordination movement was \"dissident\" in the sense that it was breaking church rules, but that \"we don't see ourselves as dissident.\" \u003cbr/\u003e\"We're saying we have every right to be there,\" Hatton said on Thursday in Rome, where she spoke at a conference on the modern expectations of the Catholic faithful.\u003cbr/\u003eMarta Heizer from the International Movement We Are Church (IWARC) joined Hatton in Rome for the conference. another lay reform movement, founded in 1996 following the outcry that erupted in Austria over the sex abuse scandal involving its then-archbishop of Vienna, Cardinal Hans Groer. \u003cbr/\u003eGroer was forced to resign in 1995 over claims he molested youths in a monastery in the 1970s. \u003cbr/\u003eThe movement is represented in more than 20 countries. \u003cbr/\u003eRobert Moynihan, the editor and founder of 'Inside the Vatican' magazine, said the church was grappling with the question of modernisation.\u003cbr/\u003eHe said the cardinals were \"committed to trying to continue a Pope Benedict XVI.\u003cbr/\u003eGammarelli says it has been serving priests, bishops and cardinals for six generations.\u003cbr/\u003eFor the past seven conclaves, Gammarelli has prepared three identical white outfits in small, medium and large for the new pontiff's first appearance on the balcony of Saint Peter's Basilica. \u003cbr/\u003eWalter Caporale, the president of the Italian Animal Rights Association, said the activists were calling for the Vatican to reject the tradition of using animal fur on the new pope's clothes. \u003cbr/\u003e''We are here wondering if the Vatican is
