The area is accredited by many with links to the supernatural - this sulphuric mud being...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eSpanish/Nat\u003cbr/\u003eThousands in Peru are flocking to Chilca, a dusty, desert town outside the capital Lima, to wallow in mud thought to have healing powers. \u003cbr/\u003eThe area is accredited by many with links to the supernatural - this sulphuric mud being just one example.\u003cbr/\u003eBut many who visit Chilca are there because they cannot afford standard medical treatment. \u003cbr/\u003eChilca in Peru is home to the Miracle Lagoon.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd thousands flock here searching for a miracle that will cure them of their ailments.\u003cbr/\u003eThe dusty, desert town lies on Peru's Pacific coast, 40 miles (64 kilometers) outside the capital Lima. \u003cbr/\u003eIts fame as a curative spar springs from the mud here which contains sulphur, iron, calcium and other minerals.\u003cbr/\u003eThe superstitious say its source is extra terrestrial. \u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (Spanish) \u003cbr/\u003e\"It has properties to heal arthritis and skin disorders. Many people come from the capital and also use it (the mud) to relax. That is, they go into the water and then go into a deep sleep and when they wake up, they feel renewed. Apparently there's a lot of energy and that has happened to everyone. Everyone who comes here takes a bath and feels very relaxed.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Numa Rueda\u003cbr/\u003eThere are a series of mud baths, including one called The Twin Maker.\u003cbr/\u003eChilca, a town of ten thousand has more than 100 pairs of twins on record and this so called miracle mud pond is supposed to cure infertility and impotence.\u003cbr/\u003eThe second pond, called The Miraculous is alleged to help cure arthritis, rheumatism, cataracts and muscle pain. \u003cbr/\u003eThe third, The Enchanted, is reserved for skin ailments and migraines. \u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (Spanish) \u003cbr/\u003e\"They say it's good and since I suffer from arthritis we came to try it out and with so many remedies around we're tired already, so it's not a bad thing to try.
