Wide shot family eating dinner\u003cbr/\u003eIt's New Years Eve in the US state of Iowa, and presidential candidates are in mid flow as they compete for undecided voters in the upcoming caucuses.\u003cbr/\u003eWith the Iowa caucuses just three days away, many presidential hopefuls are spending every precious minute campaigning, even over the festive holiday season, when many voters are in the mood for parties, not politics. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Democratic and Republican contests in Iowa, on Thursday, and the state of New Hampshire, on January 8, are essentially dead heats.\u003cbr/\u003eNo candidate can afford to take time off, except perhaps for a sip of champagne.\u003cbr/\u003eAt presidential candidate Barack Obama's campaign office in downtown Des Moines, volunteers were making last minute phone calls to convince voters to come out and caucus for the Illinois Senator on Thursday.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Part of what we do is clear up any confusion, make people comfortable with what they're going to be doing on Thursday January 3rd. So we just need to let people know and make sure that they know how much of an impact they have and how much their voice really counts,\" said one of Obama's field organisers, Adam Yukman.\u003cbr/\u003eThe caucuses are the crucial first contest in political parties state-by-state process of selecting presidential nominees. \u003cbr/\u003eCandidates who do well in Iowa and the New Hampshire primary generally have valuable support in cementing their bid for the party's nomination. Those who do poorly, however, often decide to drop out of the race.\u003cbr/\u003eAP political analyst Ron Fournier says the reason it takes many Iowans wait till caucus night to make a decision is because they're spoiled from all the candidates' attention.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Every four years the world come to them, the most important people in the world come here and beg for their votes. She is hoping to attract newcomers who are older and female, while Obama is banking on those who are younger and male. Edwards, meanwhile, is targeting supporters who have reliably caucused in the past.\u003cbr/\u003eMike Huckabee, the former Baptist minister, is leading in the Republican polls here, though his advantage has narrowed. That may, in part, be due to the negative TV commercials Republican rival Mitt Romney is airing.\u003cbr/\u003eWhile the uncertainty may be unsettling for the candidates and their campaign staff, undecided voters seem to still be deliberately reviewing their options.\u003cbr/\u003eOne Iowan family in particular, the Adamson's from Carlisle, is split down the middle. Half the family members are decided on Huckabee, others are for Obama, but one couple is still undecided.\u003cbr/\u003e\"You need someone who can lead the American people, to rally behind them and I think that's how you get change.
