PHOTO: Side shot of wounded man \u003cbr/\u003eA group of Sri Lankan fishermen captured three suspected Tamil Tiger rebels on an alleged suicide mission on Saturday near the capital, Colombo, according to police reports.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe men were captured as they came ashore in diving gear at Pamunugama, 18 kilometres (ten miles) north of Colombo. \u003cbr/\u003eOne eye witness reported hearing large underwater explosions about the time of their arrest. \u003cbr/\u003eReports also say two of the suspects bit on what were believed to be trademark cyanide capsules worn round the neck in an attempt to commit suicide after their capture.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Tamil Tigers are known to take cyanide capsules in order to avoid being captured alive and questioned by the government.\u003cbr/\u003ePolice at the scene recovered oxygen bottles and underwater swimming equipment that had been washed on shore. \u003cbr/\u003eThe discovery of the equipment and the series of explosions heard suggested the men were on a suicide attack mission, police said.\u003cbr/\u003eThe two self-poisoned rebels are currently being held in hospital for treatment. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Tamil Tiger movement first appeared nearly three decades ago, vowing to fight for a separate homeland in the north and the east, where most of the country's 3.2 (m) million Hindu Tamils live.\u003cbr/\u003eThey complain of discrimination by the country's 14 (m) million Sinhalese, who are mostly Buddhists.\u003cbr/\u003eThe struggle intensified after anti-Tamil riots in 1983, and more than 65-thousand people have died in the civil unrest.\u003cbr/\u003eDespite peace talks, sporadic shootings and bombings in and around Tiger strongholds have increased in the past four years to a pitch of almost daily violence.\u003cbr/\u003eElsewhere, some of the wounded caught in crossfire between Sri Lankan government soldiers and Tamil Tiger rebels were being treated in a government hospital in Mannar, about 220 kilometres (138 miles) from Colombo, Sri Lanka.\u003cbr/\u003eTamil Tiger rebels attacked a Sri Lankan naval base on Saturday in the northwest district of Mannar, killing six sailors, while rapid retaliation from the army and air force left up to 30 guerilla fighters dead, further heightening fears of a return to full-scale civil war.\u003cbr/\u003eA reporter at the
