Clip - '21 Seconds,' So Solid Crew\u003cbr/\u003eSO SOLID CREW member ASHER D was sentenced to eighteen months behind bars yesterday (26MAR02) for carrying a loaded firearm.\u003cbr/\u003eAsher, real name ASHLEY WALTERS, 19, admitted a single offence of possession of a prohibited firearm when he appeared at London's Southwark Crown Court earlier this month.\u003cbr/\u003eAs the rapper was sentenced, friends and relatives in the court broke into tears. He waved briefly at his family before being led to the cells.\u003cbr/\u003eHe was told that he will be eligible for parole after serving half of his sentence in a young offender's institution. A spokeswoman for So Solid Crew said Walters was 'greatly relieved' at the sentence, which could have carried a ten year sentence. \u003cbr/\u003eWalters, a father-of-two from Peckham, south London, who has had acting parts in Grange Hill and The Bill, was arrested after a confrontation with a traffic warden over an expired meter.\u003cbr/\u003eProsecution counsel Stephen Holt told the court that traffic warden Olufemi Onafeko was so concerned about the defendant's behaviour that he called police.\u003cbr/\u003eWhen an armed response vehicle stopped the car the weapon, a modified air-pistol, was found wrapped in a sock in Walters' girlfriend's handbag.\u003cbr/\u003eWalters told the court how he had bought the gun when he feared for his family's safety. He explained to police that his family have fallen victim to countless robberies and vandalism due to his success including one incident when a gun was put to his head. \u003cbr/\u003eHis defence lawyer Simon Pentol said: \"He's filled with shame and remorse. He's angry with himself and feels he's let young people down. He didn't carry the gun to make himself look big. Far from it. He carried it out of a genuine sense of fear. He is a victim of the jealous.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThis isn't the first time the group have brushed with the law. The band, which had a number one hit with '21 Seconds' and won a Brit Award last month, has been dogged by controversy and violence during its short existence.\u003cbr/\u003eEarly last year, Marcus Hall, an 18-year-old computer administrator, was stabbed and beaten to death after going to see the band at a Luton nightclub.\u003cbr/\u003eIn May last year, one So Solid member was blasted in the leg after a confrontation outside another nightspot.\u003cbr/\u003eIn the summer, violence erupted after the group appeared at a club in the Cypriot resort of Ayia Napa. One man was stabbed 11 times and only survived thanks to seven hours of surgery. Two others needed hospital treatment. \u003cbr/\u003eIn November, two people were shot and wounded during a party at the Astoria Theatre in London held to celebrate the birthday of their singer Romeo.\u003cbr/\u003eLast October, band member Darren Weir, 22, was convicted of breaking a 16-year-old fan's jaw in two places in a Cardiff hotel lobby after she rejected his advances.\u003cbr/\u003eThe controversy surrounding So Solid Crew is so intense that Ashley Walters didn't think the group would be invited to this year's Brit awards.\u003cbr/\u003eHe told APTN: \"Brits means a lot man, we didn't really expect to get allowed in the premises sort of thing so me being here is very good.\"\u003cbr/\u003eAnd as So Solid Crew member Mr Shabz admitted to APTN in an interview late last year, their ability to get into trouble tends to land them in the paper for all the wrong reasons.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I say that it is because we always...
