Basically a team of 11 or 12 people, including myself, designed and built the car. The brake pads are made from a liquid from the shells of cashew nuts and various other plant fibres pushed together, then again all very good for the environment. Museum.\u003cbr/\u003ePetrol guzzling cars could soon be a thing of the past according to the organisers of the Renewable Racing event.\u003cbr/\u003eOn display are two environmentally friendly racing cars which can reach high speeds of up to 150 miles per hour (241 kilometres) without damaging the environment.\u003cbr/\u003eThe speedy cars have been developed by students from two universities in the United Kingdom.\u003cbr/\u003eBen Wood from Warwick University is one of the people involved in designing the cars.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says it took his team of twelve people two months to design the car.\u003cbr/\u003eHis car is made from 95% biodegradable and recyclable materials, including tyres made out of potatoes and a shell made of hemp fibres.\u003cbr/\u003eWood says most of the vehicle's components are biodegradable or recyclable.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says the brake pads are made from cashew shells and other vegetable fibres.\u003cbr/\u003eThe exhibition looks at ways in which motor-racing can be developed without using polluting diesel.\u003cbr/\u003eWood says features like the brake pads should be available in ordinary cars in the next five years.\u003cbr/\u003eHowever, for now the technology remains confined to the racetrack.\u003cbr/\u003eDr. Ralph Clague from Imperial College London is involved in designing the other car on display.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says his team is pushing the science to develop better cars.\u003cbr/\u003eThe entry runs off a hi-tech hydrogen fuel cell, and is so powerful that a full-sized version of the car could accelerate faster than a Porsche, according to the team from the Imperial College.\u003cbr/\u003eThe organisers hope to inspire today's young engineers to create tomorrow's cars.\u003cbr/\u003eWalking through the museum's gallery dedicated to classic motoring is Dr. Offer from Imperial College London.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says the industry needs newly qualified engineers capable of working on hybrid cars.\u003cbr/\u003eMost hybrid cars combine conventional engines with electric batteries.\u003cbr/\u003eThe cars and their designers will be at the Antenna Gallery at the Science Museum in London
