(Sept. 3)\u003cbr/\u003e [Notes:ANCHOR VOICE]  \u003cbr/\u003e(New York)  This is the emergency room at Jamaica Hospital, which serves a  low-income community in the densely-populated New York City borough of  Queens.  \u003cbr/\u003eDoctors here say it is busy ALL the time, year round.  \u003cbr/\u003eQueens was the epicenter of the country's swine flu outbreak in the  spring.  \u003cbr/\u003eIf it comes back more severely this flu season, doctors here are worried  they will quickly be over run.  \u003cbr/\u003e(Geoffrey Doughlin, Emergency Room Doctor)  \"If we have a higher percentage of people requiring critical care, then  that's really going to strain our resources.\"  \u003cbr/\u003eDuring the spring swine flu outbreak traffic here more than doubled, to  663 Er visits per day.  \u003cbr/\u003eThis is a community of immigrants, the uninsured, and working poor, many  of whom do not have primary care doctors.  \u003cbr/\u003eThus the emergency room is the only place many people go when sick. \u003cbr/\u003eDave Rosen is the CEO of four hospitals in this area, and he's hoping  the government is aware of the potential for chaos here.  \u003cbr/\u003e(David Rosen, MediSys Health Network)  \"On a sustained basis it begins to impact on everything else that we do,  which raises other questions because people are getting sick, people are  getting hit by cars, people are getting shot and we have to deal with that  as well.\"  \u003cbr/\u003eRosen says doctors here were quick to respond to Hurricanes Andrew and  Katrina, and hopes others will respond in kind.  \u003cbr/\u003eHere at Jamaica Hospital officials are turning part of the cafeteria and  other areas into triage and possible quarantine rooms for swine flu.
