Kangaroo jumping away\u003cbr/\u003eKangaroos at an Israeli zoo are being given dental treatment with a special toothpaste to solve a common mouth disease that can kill them.\u003cbr/\u003eLumpy jaw disease affects many kangaroos held in captivity.\u003cbr/\u003eIsraeli veterinarians say they have developed a treatment to deal with the disease, which can arise due to factors such as overcrowding, poor drainage, poor diet or age.\u003cbr/\u003eThe disease makes kangaroos lose their appetite, and they eventually starve to death. \u003cbr/\u003eDoctors at the Gan Garoo Australian Park in the northern Israeli town of Nir David say an outbreak of the disease four years ago killed 40 per cent of the kangaroos held there.\u003cbr/\u003eThat spurred scientists from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem to find a more effective way to treat the disease.\u003cbr/\u003eThey came up with a special toothpaste that has so far succeed in slowing the spread of the disease at two Israeli all over the marsupial's mouth, gums and teeth, and then return the kangaroo to its pen.\u003cbr/\u003eDoctors say the varnish replaces previous antibiotics treatment.\u003cbr/\u003eDuring the new treatment chlorhexidine varnish with sustained release features is applied by brush to the kangaroos teeth in a way scientists say helps shorten treatment and may prevent recurrence.\u003cbr/\u003eThe
