Dictatorship, no!\"\u003cbr/\u003eAnd they marched with huge red banners past the ornate Palace of Justice that bore the word \"DEMOCRACIA\" in bold white letters. \u003cbr/\u003eOthers wildly waved red-and-white Peruvian flags chanting \"Listen to us! Listen now!\" while some waved a banner of revolutionary Ernesto \"Che\" Guevara.\u003cbr/\u003eThursday's rally marked the start of a round of protests intended to culminate with a march on Friday morning against Fujimori's inauguration. \u003cbr/\u003eRiot police were not present on Thursday.\u003cbr/\u003eAlejandro Toledo, the opposition candidate, boycotted the May 28 election, crying fraud.\u003cbr/\u003eHe then vowed to discredit Friday's inauguration by calling on tens of thousands of people to march through downtown Lima in an outpouring of \"peaceful resistance.\"\u003cbr/\u003eHis supporters answered his call.\u003cbr/\u003eFujimori's autocratic style is seen by critics as a throwback to the Latin American dictatorships of old.\u003cbr/\u003eInternational monitors have said the May 28 election did not meet minimum standards of fairness, and refused to lend it legitimacy by overseeing it.\u003cbr/\u003eNine Latin American presidents attended Fujimori's second term inauguration in 1995. \u003cbr/\u003eFive were there for his first term ceremony in 1990. \u003cbr/\u003eBut as of July 20, only the presidents of Ecuador and Bolivia confirmed they would attend  the new inauguration.\u003cbr/\u003e Lima, Peru- July 27, 2000 \u003cbr/\u003eNight shots\u003cbr/\u003e1.
