These remand proceedings are taking place in the magistrate's court and the magistrate does not have jurisdiction to grant bail except with the personal consent of the attorney general. Door of police truck being shut\u003cbr/\u003eTendai Biti, the secretary general of Zimbabwe's opposition party the Movement for Democratic Change, was in court on Thursday, for a hearing on charges of treason, publishing false statements, insulting the president and another charges related to interfering with the military.\u003cbr/\u003eBiti was arrested last week after police said he had spoken to generals about which military figures should step down if his party were to come to power.\u003cbr/\u003eThe false statement charge was related to Biti's announcement before official results were released that opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai won the first round of presidential voting March 29. \u003cbr/\u003eThe opposition party claims Tsvangirai won outright.\u003cbr/\u003eAccording to official results Tsvangirai came first but not with the 50 percent plus one vote needed to avoid a runoff against President Robert Mugabe.\u003cbr/\u003eTsvangirai, who attended Biti's hearing Thursday, told reporters during a break that he objected to \"the manner in which this whole case is being handled\".\u003cbr/\u003eFollowing the hearing, Biti was filmed being taken away in a police truck.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The court will deliver its ruling on the application for the refusal of remand tomorrow at quarter past eleven (0915 GMT),\" Biti's lawyer Lewis Uriri told AP Television.\u003cbr/\u003eUriri said the acting attorney general had already been contacted to request his consent for a bail application, should Biti be placed on remand.\u003cbr/\u003e\"But apart violating election laws, saying results showing victory by the opposition were made public by officers at polling stations.  \u003cbr/\u003eConcerns have mounted over the runoff between Tsvangirai and Mugabe, which is just over a week away, with the opposition saying that it was facing escalating violence. \u003cbr/\u003eSince the first round of voting March 29, opposition supporters have been attacked and arrested, and Tsvangirai's attempts to campaign have been thwarted by police.  \u003cbr/\u003eTsvangirai has been detained at least six times since he began campaigning for the runoff. \u003cbr/\u003eTwo campaign buses have been impounded.  \u003cbr/\u003eMugabe, meanwhile, has campaigned freely at rallies given prominence by the dominant state newspapers and state television and
