Close-up of Knut playing\u003cbr/\u003eBerlin Zoo has seen a massive rise in visitor numbers thanks to its star attraction, the polar bear cub Knut.\u003cbr/\u003eGermany's celebrity polar bear cub expects to bring in 3.3 (m) million US dollars more than last year due to a dramatic rise in visitors.\u003cbr/\u003eThe 6-month-old bear draws several hundred visitors each day, who line up behind metal gates for his 11 a.m. public viewing. \u003cbr/\u003eOn Thursday, unfazed by the attention, Knut rolled in the dirt under a hot sun, then took a bath with the zoo keepers. \u003cbr/\u003eOfficials say the cub, the first polar bear born at Berlin Zoo in 33 years, helped the zoo record its millionth visitor of the year in mid-May, a mark not typically reached until late July. \u003cbr/\u003eRevenue is expected to rise to nearly 20 (m) million US dollars this year from 16.6 (m) million US dollars in 2006.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The sales figures of Knut products are extremely good. The Berlin porcelain manufacturer KPM has released a porcelain Knut which costs 200 US dollars, and confectionery maker Haribo has a bear-shaped Knut sweet.\u003cbr/\u003eOn Thursday a silver necklace of Knut was on sale at the Zoo for the first time.\u003cbr/\u003eBut Knut is not just about making money for the zoo; its presence helps to draw attention to pressing environmental issues.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We are now trying to separate the brand Knut from the animal Knut.
