Supporters cheering and waving \u003cbr/\u003eThe South Korean Presidential campaign ended on Wednesday with candidates holding last-minute rallies and the voters left to consider a wide range of election issues and conflicting policies.\u003cbr/\u003eLee Hoi-chang appears to be trailing ruling party candidate Roh Moo-hyun by 6-9 percentage points in recent polls, according to the Roh campaign and several local and international publications.\u003cbr/\u003eBut Lee's campaign officials are confident that a \"silent majority\" of conservative voters will support him on Thursday and make him the winner.\u003cbr/\u003eLee was leading the race convincingly over the summer, capitalising on President Kim Dae-jung's family corruption scandal. But the President resigned from the Millennium Democratic Party, and the party's candidate, Roh, steadily gained ground.\u003cbr/\u003eLee is seen to have very close ties to South Korea's chaebols, or huge conglomerates, which have traditionally controlled the local economy.\u003cbr/\u003eRoh is a populist former human rights lawyer with strong ties to the volatile labour unions. Roh has called for further reforms of big business, while Lee is talking tough in dealing with labour strikes.\u003cbr/\u003eNeither man is especially popular with voters, generating crowds in the hundreds at their campaign rallies, unlike five years ago when thousands turned out.\u003cbr/\u003eThe two candidates have very differing opinions on the issues, not the least is how to deal with North Korea.\u003cbr/\u003eRoh supports continuing Kim Dae-jung's \"sunshine policy\" of generous engagement with Pyongyang.\u003cbr/\u003eLee seeks a more skeptical approach, demanding an end to the North's nuclear arms program before coming up with more trade and aid money.\u003cbr/\u003eHe has recently softened his approach, saying he would meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-il if elected, a statement that his opponent ridicules.\u003cbr/\u003eLee's approach appeared to be bringing him back in the lead in the election when North Korea announced it had continued its efforts to produce nuclear weapons in mid-November.\u003cbr/\u003eHowever, recent anti-US demonstrations have reversed his gains, as Lee's policies toward Pyongyang seem to mirror those of Washington.\u003cbr/\u003eThe negative feeling towards the US became a passionate mass movement when two American soldiers were cleared by a military courts martial, after they killed two young Korean women in a traffic accident.\u003cbr/\u003eDemands for a change to the Status of Forces Agreement have now been accepted by both candidates.\u003cbr/\u003eBut Roh had long ago called for the US military to leave South Korea altogether and despite assertions by his campaign that he has not used the issue, it has still solidified his support.\u003cbr/\u003eThe anti-American sentiment was evident at a final day rally for pro-labour candidate Kwon Young-gil on Wednesday.\u003cbr/\u003eHis supporters sang obscene insults about the US, while Kwon is asking President George W. Bush to apologise to the Korean people.\u003cbr/\u003eKwon's chances for victory are almost non-existent, a situation that caused candidate Jang Se-dong, a protege of former military leader President Chun Doo-hwon, to pull out of the race at the last second.\u003cbr/\u003eBut Kwon plans to stay in the race with the main candidates to the end, putting forth his ideas on the issues that will
