Times newspaper says that Christmas is the most important time of the year for large retailers and they want to encourage the spending spree to begin as early as possible to maximise their profits. \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to the British Retail Consortium (BRC), a consortium which represents British retailers,  Christmas is the most significant trading period of the year for retailers in the UK, with approximately 40% - 60% of many larger retailers turnover being made between November and January. \u003cbr/\u003eThe BRCs figures for 2004 indicate that in the United Kingdom, Christmas shoppers spent �31 billion (59 billion US dollars) in the month of December, of which �14 billion (26 billion US dollars) was spent in the two weeks leading up to Christmas and �5 billion (9 billion US dollars) in the week after Christmas. \u003cbr/\u003eOf the �31 billion (19 billion US dollars), �10 billion was specifically for Christmas purchases.   \u003cbr/\u003eOn average, each person will
