Our investigation found deficient work in some high profile cases and also  identified policies and practices in need of substantial change.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Michael Bromwich, Justice Department Inspector General\u003cbr/\u003eBromwich criticised the management of the laboratory which worked on such high- profile cases as the bombs at Oklahoma City and the World Trade Centre in New York.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Scientifically flawed testimony, inaccurate testimony, testimony beyond the laboratory  examiner's expertise, improper preparation of laboratory reports, insufficient  documentation of test results, scientifically flawed reports, inadequate record  management and retention and instances in which laboratory managers failed to  adequately address and resolve a range of issues.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Michael Bromwich, Justice Department Inspector General\u003cbr/\u003eThe Justice Department's Inspector General also criticised the scientific qualifications of  agents in the F-B-I's explosives unit and recommended that only scientists be  employed there.\u003cbr/\u003e\"These are serious and significant deficiencies.  They lead us to recommend serious  personnel changes within the lab.  Our recommendations include that the chief of the  chemistry toxicology unit not hold a supervisory position, that an explosives unit  examiner who testified in the World Trade Centre case be reassigned outside the  laboratory, and that other non-scientist examiners in the explosives unit - including the  chief - be transferred after the unit is restaffed with examiners having scientific  backgrounds.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Michael Bromwich, Justice Department Inspector General\u003cbr/\u003eU-S Attorney General Janet Reno said prosecutors in 55 cases had been informed of  findings from the investigation that might need to be turned over to defence attorneys  because the data might help to clear their clients.\u003cbr/\u003eThe F-B-I said it had no idea how many - if any - miscarriages of justice resulted from  the laboratory's work.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Until we complete a review of each and every case conducted by all of the examiners  who have been criticised in the investigation, look at the science that was performed,  look at the testimony that was offered in all cases which resulted in a conviction.  We  cannot say with certainty whether there has been any impact on those cases.
