On a 24 hour trip...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eSpanish/Nat \u003cbr/\u003eFormer Peruvian presidential candidate and Opposition leader, Alejandro Toledo, has  warned that without President Alberto Fujimori's resignation, Peru would not be  guaranteed clean elections on April 8th. \u003cbr/\u003eOn a 24 hour trip to Buenos Aires at the invitation of President Fernando de la Rua,  Toledo called for a new transitional government which would ensure political, economic  and social stability. \u003cbr/\u003eHe denounced the much publicised search for ex-intelligence chief Vladimiro  Montecinos, as a farce set up to distract the public's attention from the more serious  issue of drugs trafficking and the arms trade.\u003cbr/\u003eAlejandro Toledo arrived in Buenos Aires to a fanfare of support from Peruvian  sympathisers.\u003cbr/\u003eThey were here to welcome Fujimori's strongest, most credible rival during the  presidential elections earlier this year - elections which were universally denounced as  fraudulent.\u003cbr/\u003eSince then, instead of taking a back seat, Toledo has been the loudest voice echoing  political dissatisfaction in Peru, consolidating and mobilizing an opposition deeply  frustrated with the Fujimori administration.\u003cbr/\u003eToledo was categorical in his demands for Fujimori's resignation and the establishment  of a transitional government.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (Spanish)\u003cbr/\u003e\"We have to bring back institutional generals like General Tafur and General Huertas.  We need to take Montecinos to court. Why are they so scared of him. He has to go to  court in or outside Peru. Thirdly, we insist on Fujimori's resignation because Fujimori is  a substantial part of the problem. He is the source of political instability, he has lost  support, he should resign. This means paving the way to a transitional government  which instills stability and confidence to accelerate the democratic process in the  dialogue going on with the O-A-S (Organisation of American States) and to construct a  climate that would guarantee clean, fair and transparent elections.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Alejandro Toledo, Leader of Peru Posible\u003cbr/\u003eToledo and his Belgian born wife met with Fernando de la Rua who had invited the  couple to visit.\u003cbr/\u003eToledo said it was an insult to expect Peruvians to believe that Fujimori, who has been  noted for his recent absence from the public eye, did not know the whereabouts of his  former aide Vladimiro Montecinos.\u003cbr/\u003eBut Montecinos' whereabouts is not the central issue at stake here, according to  Toledo.\u003cbr/\u003eHe claims instead that the real questions deal with Montecinos and indeed, Fujimori's  government's involvement in arms and drugs trading. \u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (Spanish)\u003cbr/\u003e\"I think this is an insult because no-one can believe that Fujimori doesn't know where  main partner is. I know that this a mere gloss in order to distract from more fundamental  issues. And these issues are of corruption.
