Children on a raft\u003cbr/\u003eRelief efforts to help (m) millions of people stranded by heavy flooding in South Asia continued in India on Thursday. \u003cbr/\u003eThe rains across much of northern India, Bangladesh and Nepal have flooded rivers and submerged villages and farmland, killing at least 521 people and stranding some 19 (m) million more, officials said.\u003cbr/\u003eA respite in the monsoon on Thursday allowed rescuers to reach remote submerged villages in northern India, leading to a sharp rise in the reported death toll from more than two weeks of heavy rains.\u003cbr/\u003eThough the rains have abated, dozens of villages and much farmland remain under water across northern India, officials said.\u003cbr/\u003eWith flood waters receding and thousands of villagers returning to their homes, aid workers have rushed food, clean drinking water and medicine to flood-hit areas to ward off an epidemic.\u003cbr/\u003eIn Domra Village in the Maharajgunj district of Uttar Pradesh officials managed to distribute aid to those affected by the flooding.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We are providing 20 kilos of rice, polythene sheets, salt, matchboxes and candles. We have also distributed two litres of kerosene oil to each affected family,'' said government official Amar Pal Singh.\u003cbr/\u003eNearly 1,000 people have been treated for cholera and gastroenteritis in Uttar Pradesh, officials said.\u003cbr/\u003eVillagers have also been given chlorine tablets to purify drinking water and advised to take precautions for the next few days, officials said.\u003cbr/\u003eMeanwhile, international aid agencies warned of an impending health crisis across South Asia if help does not reach (m) millions of people stranded by the heavy flooding.\u003cbr/\u003eA doctor with the World Health Organisation (WHO) supervising the treatment of Bangladesh's flood victims said he expects the situation to get a lot worse.\u003cbr/\u003eMore than two weeks of monsoon rains across Bangladesh have killed at least 192 people and stranded (m) millions without fresh water or food, officials said. \u003cbr/\u003eStagnant waters left by the floods are a lethal breeding ground for diarrhoea, waterborne diseases, and various skin diseases, with children, who make up 40 per cent of South Asia's population, particularly susceptible.\u003cbr/\u003eWHO official, Dr Kazi AHM Akram, told AP Television: \"Floods will improve but disease conditions will deteriorate, as we have seen before in our experience during the other great floods.\"\u003cbr/\u003eIn Bangladesh, there were 1,400 reported cases of diarrhoea this week, the Word Health Organisation said. Dr Akram said previous experience has meant there is a \"plan ready for tackling this kind of situation.\"  \u003cbr/\u003eIn Dhaka, the capital has makeshift hospitals have been constructed to deal with vast number of sick people, requiring treatment and medical care.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Bangladesh government has been criticised for an inadequate response to the crisis but Sadaruddin Ahmed,
