Pan to men inspecting toilet cubicle\u003cbr/\u003eThough it includes such ideas as a solar-powered commode that runs without water, the 2007 World Toilet Summit is no bathroom novelty show.\u003cbr/\u003eParticipants at New Delhi's four-day gathering of experts, toilet aficionados, and even royalty from 44 countries are grappling with health and sanitation issues that endanger almost one-third of the world's people who don't have toilets.\u003cbr/\u003eThe United Nations (UN) estimates there are some 2.6 (b) billion people without access to basic sanitation, over half living in India and China, a stark reminder of the challenges facing these developing nations despite their recent rampant economic growth.\u003cbr/\u003eBindeshwar Pathak, the head of the Sulabh Sanitation and one of the exhibitors has been encouraging exhibitors to use the ideas and innovations on display to help sanitation in their own countries and achieve the Millennium Development Goal of increasing sanitation to countries that don't have access to toilets.\u003cbr/\u003eThe theme of the seventh annual toilet summit, co-hosted by Sulabh Sanitation, the Indian government and the Singapore-based World Toilet Organisation, is how to reach the UN goal of halving the number of people living without water and sanitation by 2015.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's estimated almost one-third of the world's population don't have toilets.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We are telling 43 countries' participants who have come here that either you take these technologies, make some modifications according to the local conditions of your country or you will have to develop your own technologies.\" he said.\u003cbr/\u003ePart of the problem is building expensive sewage systems in remote rural areas with scarce water supplies.\u003cbr/\u003eSulabh International has devised two simple and cheap technologies - for homes and public toilets - that are different from the septic tank and sewerage system model.\u003cbr/\u003eThese toilets have pits which require minimal water and convert human waste into manure once they are full.  \u003cbr/\u003eRecently, the organisation has built multi-purpose public toilet complexes in Afghanistan that convert waste into biogas that can be used to provide hot water for bathing and washing purposes. \u003cbr/\u003eAlso on display is the self-cleaning toilet system designed by the German company Stoer which requires no cleaning staff and can be installed at bus stops and other public places.\u003cbr/\u003e\"This is the first toilet which is cleaning itself and only cleans for itself - then we need no staff. railways.\u003cbr/\u003eAccording to her model, the engine driver controls the disposal of wastes through a switch which when switched off prevents the falling of toilet waste on tracks at
