Various of children and parents at school playground \u003cbr/\u003ePolice surrounded a house two blocks from the Vintage Hills Elementary School, in California on Thursday after residents said a mountain lion may have taken shelter under the home. \u003cbr/\u003eOnce at the scene, trappers found no evidence of the animal.\u003cbr/\u003eTeachers at the school had been told not to let children out for recess, and residents in the neighbourhood 30 miles (48 kilometres) east of San Francisco had been urged to stay in doors.\u003cbr/\u003eWildlife officials set up baited cages and had tranquiliser guns ready.\u003cbr/\u003eIn recent weeks, several mountain lion sightings have been reported in the area.\u003cbr/\u003e\"They live in the hills around the developments and occasionally this time of the year they'll move through these developed areas looking for food and looking for new places to stay,\" said Lieutenant Sheree Christensen of the California Department of Fish \u0026amp; Game. \u003cbr/\u003ePleasanton School District officials assured the public that extra security measures were being taken. \u003cbr/\u003e\"We do have extra staff on campus today and we're going to limit the kids to the blacktop area and have some staff around the perimeter just to keep an eye open,\" said Myla Grasso of the Pleasanton School District. \u003cbr/\u003eThe sightings had some parents concerned. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Normally we walk to school and he's usually in a stroller and just not feeling very safe to do that so we drove to school yesterday and today,\" Jill Maratsos said.\u003cbr/\u003eWhile other parents, like Chris Peterson, thought there was too much fuss surrounding the issue. \u003cbr/\u003e\"I think a mountain lion is going to be more scared of people than we are of them. Maybe it's a good idea to be cautious but I think it's way overboard, \" said Peterson. \u003cbr/\u003eTrappers climbed into a crawl space beneath the house, but found nothing to indicate a mountain lion had been there, a spokesman from the Department of Fish and Game said.\u003cbr/\u003eSearchers went through the surrounding neighbourhood but only spotted what appeared to be raccoon tracks, he
