Ariel playing piano during jam session \u003cbr/\u003eAriel Lanyi sits on a pillow to reach the piano and stands up on a chair to play the double bass. \u003cbr/\u003eHe peeks over the rims of the drum set and isn't big enough to use a full-sized violin, yet.\u003cbr/\u003eBut the boy is still impressing people with his improvised jazz compositions.\u003cbr/\u003eThe piano is the 9-year-old Israeli's main instrument, but when he gets going at a jam session, he can't stick to just one. \u003cbr/\u003eHis enthusiasm crosses genres as well, and even though he studies classical piano at the Jerusalem Music Conservatory, he's also the youngest member of the Kadima Collective, an avant-garde jazz troupe in Israel.\u003cbr/\u003eWhile surfing the Internet at age seven, Ariel accidentally clicked on a link to the great jazz pianist Earl Hines. He says after that he couldn't get enough.\u003cbr/\u003eJean Claude or JC Jones, the former director of the jazz department of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, is Ariel's teacher.\u003cbr/\u003eAriel and JC sometimes play concerts that start past Ariel's usual 9 pm bedtime.\u003cbr/\u003eJones, squeezes music and rhythms from every part of his bass while his blue-eyed protege replies on the violin.\u003cbr/\u003eJones says he teaches Ariel because he thinks he is an interesting student. \u003cbr/\u003eAt eight, Ariel recorded a jazz album, \"31 Bars,\" that includes several original compositions. \u003cbr/\u003eHe says he would like to go on to have a career in music.\u003cbr/\u003eDuring a jam session he'll reach over and pluck the strings of Jones' bass, or during a concert he'll stomp the stage and play a jig on the violin as he does his pint-sized impression of Riverdance. \u003cbr/\u003eWhen it comes to music, he has no inhibitions.\u003cbr/\u003eBut Ariel says he does it all for fun and doesn't want to make loads of money from it.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd he is a talented boy - also speaking Hebrew, English and Russian
