Various of people playing instruments before sleeping on their hammocks\u003cbr/\u003eNorth of Colombia, on the banks of the Foundation River, in a valley 2,000 metres above sea level lies Nabusimake, the capital of the Arhuacos tribe. \u003cbr/\u003eIt's a small village where dozens of tribes people live in the mountains of Sierra Nevada preserving their beliefs, traditions and language. \u003cbr/\u003eFrom the time of Columbus, the Arhuacos tribes people have faced many difficulties in the sacred mountains of the Sierra Nevada.\u003cbr/\u003eSpanish conquerors, settlers occupying their land, widespread oppression and in more recent years the armed conflict between the government and illegal armed groups. \u003cbr/\u003eNabusimake, which in Arhuacos language means \"Land where the sun is born,\" is now seen as a refuge. A place where the Arhuacos people can live as their ancestors did.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Arhuacos are considered the strongest and most traditional of all Colombian indigenous tribes.\u003cbr/\u003eMany tourists visit Nabusimake to share a slice of life with the Arhuac, taste their food, experience their rituals and learn from the elders. \u003cbr/\u003e\"They showed us tremendous kindness and I think we showed them the same amount of respect. We've seen cultural dances and dress and weavings and chewing coca and places where people have lived. And they treated us with kindness and given us food and vegetables from the earth and shown us dances. It's been wonderful. It's been terrific,\" says  American tourist David Born. \u003cbr/\u003eTourists must remove their shoes before stepping on the sacred land - it's a traditional ritual that's said to cleanse the soul and mind.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Arhuacos have a profound respect the environment, the sacred rivers and lakes of the Sierra Nevada but most of all, a respect for human life.\u003cbr/\u003eAccording to Arhuacos tradition, the men tend the farm dressed in long white robes, while women take care of the home (including the thatched roofs), keep an eye on the children and teach their daughters to weave.\u003cbr/\u003eWomen weave the men's colourful pouches and woollen conical hats.\u003cbr/\u003eThe chewing of coca leaves is popular - a mouthful of coca is mixed with crushed seashells from a pear-shaped gourd.\u003cbr/\u003eOf course modernity has touched the Arhuacos.\u003cbr/\u003eMany of them wear running shoes, watches and baseball caps, but their ties to the sacred land of their
