A new study in the journal, Science, says the  hole in the ozone layer is going to diminish.\u003cbr/\u003eThe study was conducted in Canada, the U-S-A, Australia, Antarctica and Samoa and  Hawaii.\u003cbr/\u003eRichard Stolarski, atmospheric scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Centre in  Maryland, says there are signs it is slowly diminishing.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Well it's good news in the sense that this is the first step in beginning to return the  ozone layer to the way it was before the ozone hole and before the introduction of the  massive amounts of chlorofluorocarbons into the atmosphere.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPERCAPTION:  Richard Stolarski, Atmospheric scientist at NASA's Goddard Space  Flight Centre\u003cbr/\u003eThinning of the ozone layer is thought to be caused by industrial compounds containing  chlorine and bromine.\u003cbr/\u003eThe chemicals have been used for more than 30 years as refrigerants, cleaning agents,  and spray propellants.    \u003cbr/\u003e\"Basically we have predicted the ozone declines that have been observed.
