Mid of cooked panettone leaving production line\u003cbr/\u003eFood glorious food - some of you might have had enough in the past 24 hours but not many festive tables will have contained fried tarantulas.\u003cbr/\u003eOther gourmet delights in 2012 - a cupcake ATM, American style diners selling fast food in Baghdad, and a German restaurant offering a full English breakfast. \u003cbr/\u003eAt the start of 2012, the eyes of the world were focussed on London for the Queen's jubilee celebrations and the 2012 Olympic games.\u003cbr/\u003eWhat better time for a London-themed restaurant in Berlin to promote English cuisine. \u003cbr/\u003eBut convincing the German public of its merits was not an easy task.\u003cbr/\u003eHere at East London in Berlin a classic full English breakfast is frying away on the griddle.\u003cbr/\u003eEggs, tomatoes, mushrooms and a healthy serving of bacon - all fried in butter before being served up with bread and baked beans.\u003cbr/\u003eThis breakfast is served up in the shadow of the Berlin TV tower in the German capital's trendy Kreuzberg district.\u003cbr/\u003eBut serving British food in Germany is not always easy, as British cuisine is not renown here for its merits. \u003cbr/\u003eKarin Tobel, a Berlin resident says: \"It has a very bad reputation actually.\"\u003cbr/\u003eBut it doesn't stop her tucking into a bacon butty.\u003cbr/\u003eOn the other side of the world, farmers in Japan are still suffering the effects of the Fukushima nuclear disaster.\u003cbr/\u003eA tsunami, triggered by an earthquake, hit the Fukushima nuclear plant causing meltdown and the release of dangerous radiation.\u003cbr/\u003eRice farming is sacred in rural Japan, and the government protects farmers with tight restrictions on imports.\u003cbr/\u003eMany farmers are too close to the nuclear disaster to return to the fields, but others have been given the go-ahead, even with the risk their harvests may end up being too radiated to ship.\u003cbr/\u003eLast year's crop sits in storage in Fukushima, deemed unsafe to eat, but Toraaki Ogata is back at his rice paddies, driving his tractor, trailing neat rows of saplings. \u003cbr/\u003eHe's living up to his family's proud, six-generation history of rice farming, and praying that this time his harvest will not have too much radiation to sell.\u003cbr/\u003eRadiation is expected to decline year by year but Ogata and other farmers acknowledge they are in for a long haul.\u003cbr/\u003eBut if it was a choice between eating nuclear rice and some of these Cambodian delicacies you might be tempted to choose the former.\u003cbr/\u003eEating insects first became widespread in Cambodia when people were starving under the Khmer Rouge in the mid 1970s.\u003cbr/\u003eToday the practice has become so popular that many top-end restaurants have insects on the menu. \u003cbr/\u003eIt's called entomophagy - making a meal out of insects. \u003cbr/\u003eEating insects has grown in popularity in Cambodia because despite their appearance, they are a cheap, nutritious and a tasty source of protein.   \u003cbr/\u003eAt markets all over the country a wide variety of edible insects are sold including crickets, cockroaches and spiders.\u003cbr/\u003eThe insects are fried in crushed garlic, sugar, salt and chilies and served in a small plastic bag like a packet of crisps.    \u003cbr/\u003eNow eating insects has become so popular that even top-end restaurants like Malis in Phnom Penh now have a gourmet selection of creepy crawlies on the menu. \u003cbr/\u003eThe owner and head chef is Luu Meng, Cambodia's best- known celebrity chef and a leading expert on Cambodian cuisine. \u003cbr/\u003eHe uses insects in a number of traditionally based dishes he has updated and developed for a more gourmet experience.\u003cbr/\u003eMeng describes the experience: \"Very crunchy. When you bite it's like a crispy, smoked smell but inside it's very creamy.\"\u003cbr/\u003eIf your stomach is strong enough for crickets it might turn at the thought of tarantulas. \u003cbr/\u003eBut fried tarantulas have become such a favoured snack in one area of Cambodia that the spiders have been almost wiped out.\u003cbr/\u003eNow thousands of tarantulas are being imported into Skun to meet the daily demand for the eight-legged delicacies.\u003cbr/\u003eThe spiders are tossed in a mixture of MSG, sugar, salt, crushed garlic and chilies before being fried in oil until the legs are completely stiff.\u003cbr/\u003eHigh in protein, each one costs about US 25 cents (1000 riel).\u003cbr/\u003eLoeun Hin loves the taste of spiders, she says: \"Smells of garlic and chili, a little spicy. The meat tastes likeï¿½ the meat tastes like chicken but not quite the same.\"\u003cbr/\u003eBack in London, with the Olympics just around the corner, the capital's street food vendors were gearing up for the influx of visitors... and there's no creepy crawlies on the menu.\u003cbr/\u003eLondon boasts some 160 street markets - as well as thousands of stalls selling food inspired by recipes from around the globe.\u003cbr/\u003eOne of the capital's most famous markets is the covered Borough Market near London Bridge on the South Bank.\u003cbr/\u003eOver in Camden the flavours are even more global, with dishes from Spain, France, South Africa, Ethiopia, Poland, Turkey and East Asia all on the menu. \u003cbr/\u003eStreet food in downtown Baghdad is perhaps even more exciting.\u003cbr/\u003eFish - called mazgouf - is gutted, salted, split and cooked on a large circular wood burning barbecue.\u003cbr/\u003eThe fish is staked around the circular perimeter and smokes gently in the street.\u003cbr/\u003eThis traditional way of grilling fish dates back centuries. \u003cbr/\u003eThey are finally spiced and served with pickles and vegetables.\u003cbr/\u003eBut as a sign of the times, Baghdad now boasts a string of American-style fast food restaurants. \u003cbr/\u003eThis restaurant is located in the upscale neighbourhood of Jadiriyah and serves southern style fried chicken.\u003cbr/\u003eBaghdad's Green Zone and nearby U.S. military bases once sported outposts of big American chains, including Pizza Hut, Burger King and Subway, but they shut down as American troops left last year. \u003cbr/\u003eBecause they were hidden behind checkpoint-controlled fortifications, most ordinary Iraqis never had a chance to get close to them, anyway. \u003cbr/\u003eOver in America they've discovered an even more novel way to serve food to hungry customers.\u003cbr/\u003eIn Beverly Hills, an ATM delivering cupcakes is doing a roaring trade with people queuing up to buy the sweet treats in the early hours of the morning.\u003cbr/\u003eLong queues now line up on the pavement outside a 24-hour cupcake ATM.\u003cbr/\u003eCrowds can be found purchasing the individually boxed dessert all night long for $4 US Dollars per serving.  \u003cbr/\u003eLos Angeles based Sprinkles, the world's first designer cupcake bakery, is the first to have an ATM installed right outside its original Beverly Hills flagship location. \u003cbr/\u003eSeptember saw the annual Cake and Bake Show in London, and cupcakes were back on the menu.\u003cbr/\u003eThese Fifty Shades of Grey cupcakes were one of the hottest design trends exciting baking enthusiasts.\u003cbr/\u003eSo great was the UK's renewed love of baking that the two day Cake \u0026amp;amp; Bake show completely sold out, with over 20,000 avid fans turning up.\u003cbr/\u003eA study by Simply Business found that baking in Britain has become so popular that there was a 50 percent increase in home baking shops and a 17 percent increase in bakeries in the UK in 2011. \u003cbr/\u003eBut baking in Nigeria has more serious implications.\u003cbr/\u003eScientists in Nigeria were hoping to make cassava - a staple food in Africa - more nutritious to stamp out hunger across the continent.\u003cbr/\u003eThe root of the plant is pounded to make a type of dough, which can be eaten by hand with soups and stews.\u003cbr/\u003eTo the uninitiated, the cassava root looks more like a misshapen log or tree branch.\u003cbr/\u003eThose preparing it cut the skin off, then squeeze out the water within the root before frying it into garri, which can be made into a flour. \u003cbr/\u003eNigeria is the world's top cassava producer, according to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, with Brazil and Thailand behind it. \u003cbr/\u003eThe plant thrives in the West African nation, often without needing too much help from farmers, which makes it valuable in a nation where most still do agriculture by hand, rather than with machines.\u003cbr/\u003eNow scientists are experimenting with the flour, adding a 40 per cent mix to a dough.\u003cbr/\u003eBut scientists would need to work miracles to make these cakes more appealing. \u003cbr/\u003eA fright fest of gory cakes was being offered up as a Halloween treat by one London hospital. \u003cbr/\u003eThe exhibition includes skull and intestine cupcakes,  blood and vein marmalade, and other eye-popping displays to die for.\u003cbr/\u003eSome of these cakes were so anatomically correct they could be fresh from the hospital slab.\u003cbr/\u003eThis ulcerated leg was one of the more obviously gruesome exhibits. Cupcakes have never quite looked like this. \u003cbr/\u003eThese cakes were being exhibited in the Pathology Museum at St. Bartholomew's, which is among the oldest in London. \u003cbr/\u003eAfter those stomach churning sweets, how about something you wouldn't mind putting in your mouth?\u003cbr/\u003eChristmas in Italy is not compete without the traditional cake panettone.\u003cbr/\u003eIt originated in the city of Milan hundreds of years ago and now there are scores of regional variations.\u003cbr/\u003eFlour, yeast, butter, eggs, sugar, raisins and candied fruits are the main
